2017 212X Top Speed

2017 2012X here - I've seen 49 max with bimini up and <50% gas. That being said, the Connectx says max is 55 - not sure if that's true or simulated at the factory : )

I'm glad you mention that because mine shows 53 max and I remain hopeful I'll see that myself one day. Not sure who recorded it though because the gentleman who water tested mine at the dealer mentioned to me in conversation that he got it to 48mph while running it.

Generally, I just like to cruise around 30mph with both engines humming along around 5.8K RPM. If I hit WOT, it's generally short bursts to get around idiots on the lake. Passengers don't generally like going WOT, so I'm not hung up on it too much. With 4 of us in the boat the other day and the bimini open, I was hitting close to 50 with WOT.

I'm the same way. I cruise 25-30mph majority of the time. BUT, I am a gear head at heart and do enjoy WOT runs on smooth water!

Yep same as well, the main issue for me is simply would like my new boat to perform like a new boat should. If I get to hitting 50 with one person I’d call that good enough to say it’s performing as designed - anything above that is bonus.

went out last night just myself, no bimini and got 50. Sounds stupid but I'd be a lot happier if that said 52/53 on it. My wife thinks I'm crazy..

Is there a good thread somewhere that shows how to do the ribbon delete on the exact setups in these boats? Thanks!

This is the best I've found so far for the 1.8 engines.

About 4 posts down @swatski shares some photos of his install. Looks pretty straight forward though. I have the spacers ordered on the way and will do a post on the install. Hopefully get to it in the next week sometime.

I didn't do the spacers, just removed the flame arrestor. I'll be interested what results you get?
The technique to use a deck screw to get the screen out is a must-do. It is really nested in there good.

If you're getting 56 without the spacers, I think I'll just go that route. That is all the proof I need! Did you also remove the intake snorkel at the same time or leave it on?

Nope - everything else is bone stock. I'm even running last years crummy regular Costco gas with just a touch of Stabil added.
I did seal up the cracks between the ride plate and pump tunnel with 3M 5200 as recommended by this forum.

Can you point me in the direction of a thread on that? I haven't seen that yet. Thanks!

Yeah sounds like there is more evidence pointing to the spacers not doing anything extra for you really but some people use them and some don't - guess I'm going to be one that does so we'll see what I get.

Regarding the ribbon delete - it sounds like the mod increases air flow to the engine? I'm guessing the engine management system will add fuel as needed? Will this void the warranty? Thanks.

Yes it just increases air flow. The ecu will compensate for that difference. Not sure about the warranty, probably depends on what your claim involves and how cool your dealer is. Regardless, if you pull the ribbons out without damaging them you can just put them back in if you ever have warranty work before you take in. Worse case if you damage them you can order a couple more for $40-ish a piece. Doubt you will get a sure answer on warranty from anyone, I'm sure if you asked Yamaha or the dealer a what-if like this the answer will be void for sure.

The ribbon looks basically like a screen. Is the power increase pretty obvious?

An additional 200 rpm is what a majority of people are seeing from the this mod . It does translate into mph but that increase is harder to put a finger on because of how many variables affect mph.

Thanks. Is there a noticeable power increase in the lower rpm range, or just added rpms up top?

I didn't notice any low end power increase, but I was more focused on hitting the promised 5o+mph which had seemed to elude me up to that point. I personally saw 250-ish rpm and 4 mph increase over anything I'd seen prior to that. But again take that with a grain of salt as there are a lot of other variables working on the boat each time you are out on the water. The twin 1.8s have plenty of low end power IMO so I didn't really think about how it affected that aspect.
