Short update - last season with new tower, I had a ratchet strap around the bimini to the main tower because I didn’t trust that damn knob holding tight. Got along great all season. Several 6 hour tows. Checked knob every outing and found it tight. Also had blue loctite securing the threads.
This season, I decided I didn’t need the strap as backup. Still checked the knob every outing and found it tight. And still had blue loctite.
Towed the boat home 6 hours, no problems. 2 days later (this week actually) left on another trip - 8 hour tow. When I got to my destination, I found the knob totally loose and the bimini frame flopping around again. No damage this time, thank goodness. But that ratchet strap is on there for good now.
If you tow a lot, keep an eye on that bimini frame and how well it is secured down!
