To spend $70k plus on a new boat and to have these problems is ridiculous. Plus none of these dealerships know how to fix it. I bought the 242X wake series new in 2019 and it’s hands down the worst boat I have ever owned. Regretting my purchase big time!
As an update to my issue posted earlier. It was in the shop for over a month. I alerted the dealer to this thread. They found that the nozzles of the jets were of the incorrect size and replaced them. I did get the boat back and took it out for a short spin where it seemed to be fixed. The nozzles on the side showed scrape marks where the buckets were hitting triggering the BCU error. Maybe check your nozzles for marks from teh buckets scraping as they should never contact one another. Anyway good luck and if I do have issues with mine once I get it back in the water for some real usage I will update the thread.
Hi Mike, did they look like this? Happening on my 2020 242SE. I can't imagine that they have nozzles which would fit but be so incorrect that they're hitting the buckets??
I wanted to follow up on this topic for the following reasons:
This happened to us again this week, but it was due to the Starboard bucket was completely locked shut in the down position which was due to a stick
The error message from the boat is so useless and unrelated to the issue because of a warning of 'Stop engine. BCU error. Call the dealer' is stupid. It almost feels like a strategic mission to get you to drag your boat back to the dealer for service and rake in extra cash
As a few stated already the fix was simple which I'll add to.
Under the driver's console take the black cover off the floor which is protecting the levers for throttle control for the Port and Starboard engines
Pull the lever from Electronic to Manual on the engine having issue
Try to move the bucket which should now simply move back into normal position
Pull the lever from Manual to Electronic
Start the boat
I pulled / pushed on the bucket, cursed, talked to the Boat God's about why this wasn't told to us by our dealer or any one before now. After 15 minutes of doing this in the water and remembering about the manual override, I decided to pull the lever, however, it feels like you're pushing the big red button.
We've enjoyed our boat but the error messages and this issue with the throttle cable combined with the electronic control can really change your mind.
I've been in technology and software development for over 25 years, and I cannot understand why the error messages and software is so poor in this area unless the head unit does not have enough memory/resources which seems ridiculous however I would have expected the ability to remotely update the software and add USB/SD card to save map coordinates and other stuff.
Hope the above helps someone save a few dollars and bad days on the water.
