2023 Yamaha 252SD - Connext Screen Reboot - Furious

I’m here now getting it done. I’ll report back if it happens again. Rhx
Hi everyone, new to this thread and forum, just got a 2024 255XD and having same issue with Connex screen shutting off and rebooting while we’re cruising. Has happened at least 5 times. Has anyone found a solution or managed to fix the issue?
Thanks for any advice

Yamaha issued a recall for that exact issue last Tuesday. Mine only went out once but I had the recall done yesterday so hoping it’s good now.

Waiting to see if mine starts to have a problem... Anybody have a sense for what percentage of people are having problems? I'm at 16 hours and so far no issue.

Hey guys, I'm reviving this thread but this time it involves an AR195 connext screen. I have 8 hours on the boat and I'm running into the same issue the poster has started. I can be underway and the connext and stereo goes out and comes back on. I have a degree in avionics and am currently an electrical engineer so I have done a couple things to troubleshoot the problem. First off, I checked all the main electrical connections from the battery to the helm and tightened them. I also decided to put Dielectric grease on all the plug connections since there was none. In experimenting, I found out if I unplug the main plug under the helm or unplug the connector on the back of the connext I also loose my stereo so the power is redundant. I have not run separate power wires but might do it if the problem persists. I can't find any bad or loose connections; if the grease and reseating everything dosen't fix the issue my gut is telling me I have an issue with the connext....has anyone here run into problems with the small connext?

Did that resolve your issue?

Long story short...replaced both batteries and cables (already planned with my first service) and had the dealer change out the screen. Took a bit of kicking and screaming but Yamaha finally sent them a new one and they installed it this week. Will take it out soon and check it out. Went to 2 Optima Blue Top batteries and made sure all grounds, connections, etc were sound.
Is your problem solved?

Sure sounds like you have an older screen instead of the replacement, but makes no sense since yours is a 2024 boat.
I had mine replaced under warranty on our 2023 AR195 and so far no issues.

I guess I'll call the dealer and dig for details. If this is a software/firmware upgrade? Is there a certain version of the software, mfg. Date...etc. Or is it hardware related?....

I have a new screen waiting for me at my dealer which is 3 hours away. The only issue I was having was depth alarm quit sounding and top speed would not register as saved. No biggie as everything else is working so far.
My dealer obtained a screen in a few weeks time. Told them to hold it until years end.
Reading this message from @steelhorse454 regarding Average Speed and Highest Speed. Mine only captures that data for the current trip, meaning it resets to “0” on every trip. Not a big deal, but my depth gauge is inconsistent and I haven’t been able to turn off Neutral Steering in the DriveX menu. I have about 5 hrs on the boat, checked all of the connections multiple times and keep the batteries charged. Is it possible these things are related?

If you figure what the deal is with the neutral steering thing, let us know. I can turn it on and off so far as what is indicated on the screen, but I don't notice any difference.

Regarding the system re-booting, I serviced the thing myself, so my firmware isn't updated. Interestingly, mine reboots in exactly the same spot (geographically). Not always at that spot, but several times over the past year it has done it precisely in the same location. Seems odd that it would be position dependent, but maybe some magic lat lon from the GPS tickles some other software in the wrong way.

I was working on my boat in the driveway for a few hours and it rebooted without moving from geographical location. Likely what you experienced was a fluke. The only thing that keeps me from completely wigging out over the issue is that it's not that frequent and I don't loose control over the boat. I could see the lawsuits coming if that were not the case. Regardless, you would think by now these bugs shouldn't exist.

Likely what you experienced was a fluke.
Could be, but it has happened 4 times in the same place (near a marker in a canal, so it's easy for me to know the location.) I'm in that canal a bunch, so it's only a very small percentage of the time that it happens. Like you said though, it's infrequent enough, and there isn't a loss of control, so it's not that big a deal.

That is nuts if that is somehow interfering with the software enough to force a boot cycle! But the way you put it seems like a pattern. I guess I'll add that to my list to be aware of.

You never know... The actual position may not be causal, but some set of circumstances (throttle position, speed, whatever) that comes together at that particular location. I am a creature of habit, so it could be something else that I just happen to do at that point. Something causes it to re-boot, and if a firmware update fixes it, there is some combination of things that is making the system lose its mind.

All good valid points. The other thing i found a little shocking when troubleshooting was how the 12volt circuit goes through the connext and then powers the radio. Some aftermarket stereos are fused for 15 to 20 amps. I pulled the stock jensen and put in a kicker but I'm also using an external amp so the power draw would be minimal there. I might just run a separate 12volt to the radio.
