212X or 242X

That pic you posted looks to me like there's 10 on board, with the guy being towed making 11 total. If that's indeed the case, there's no way that's a 21 footer. (I see 3 in the bow, one in the middle of the walk-through, the captain, the guy taking pics, two on the rear starboard side, and two on the swim deck). Is this just a bad version of Where's Waldo?
I don’t know the length of that boat, found that on Instagram. I was more curious about riding on the swim platform

The boat with all the people in it is a 242X. That riding position on swim deck is illegal while underway here in my state.

Alabama

Riding on the stern is a bad idea. Manual says you will be exposed to CO. That's bad for your noggin

Every boat has to declare the legal seating positions to get it coast guard certification. Sitting on the stern is not a legal position, as such I doubt it is legal in any state. There have been many discussions about the safety of sitting back there and why. Falling off and hitting your head in the process (then drowning) is one. The other is carbon monoxide ingestion. CO ingestion will also end up with problem #1......CO slowly binds to your hemoglobin over time and eventually suffocates you, but first you pass out (fall off the boat and drown). That said, many people do this (I do not allow it on my boat). If you do it, be sure to put a life jacket on people back there so that if they end up with CO ingestion you can retrieve the body.

Regarding boat size....8 in a 242X is cozy, so I'd go bigger if I were you! Plus the 242X has E-Series throttles and drive controls....you'll love that for water sports. And if you live somewhere hot....the bimini is AWESOME!

Man you make this tough, haha. I want the 242x and actually just got done seeing one at the dealer. 212x will be going for $58k in a couple weeks at the Sacramento boat show.

I would have loved the 242 but went with the 212 just because I tow all over, ease to park on the side of the house and price. However, if price wasn't the main issue... I'd go with the 242. Tons of storage on that beast, great trim, 12" touch screen, the E-series throttle, Just sayin. But, I'm stepping up from a bare bones sea ray 18 foot to 21 foot, 212X, so I'm good... for now.

So torn right now. Sat in the 212 today and it felt right, then I got in the 242 and I was like man this would be awesome. Just trying to wrap my head around the price.

Just drooled all over the blue 242X at the St Louis show today. Man, that’s nice... and wife even liked it, a lot.

Talked to the sales guy and the closer. Wrote up some paperwork to get an estimate of exactly what we were talking about.

They did waive setup and threw in the mooring cover and 10 hour service.

But, geez, that list price just didn’t move any. 76,999 plus tax, doc fee and title.

Need to do some calculating, I guess. I have 10 days to lock in the boat show deal. Right now... just not quite feeling it. That’s a ton of money. :)

That price is a killer for most of us. Believe me, I'm extended beyond belief on the 212X, but I'm living while I can and making memories for the kids. Do what ya gotta do, brother.

I hear you on the living, I fortunately just got my VA disability completed, but my dilemma is do I want to put a little extra towards a 242 or spend it on vacation, concerts, etc... plus taking care of my parents and my niece adds a little to the financial burden.

Then you may have just answered your own question. I'm a DV as well, might as well use it while I'm still able. At some point, I'm not going to be able to move as well. No doubt the 242 is an absolute dream, but how far you want to stretch and how do you want to use it?

Glad to have a fellow vet in here. My girl doesn’t seem to be on board because of the price, but I told her from the get go that she’s not paying for it and I want to be able to have fun now that I can before life and my body start to catch up. I don’t want to stretch myself out too much, but I’ll see what they offer st the boat show in a few weeks and see what makes sense. Told myself I have budgeted $775 for the boat payment and storage monthly, hopefully I can hit that.

I think you just have to decide is two more feet worth another 20 grand. It has a lot of neat gadgets but same engines and drive system. If you absolutely need a porta potty space the 242X wins. If you feel like you can make do with 21 feet you can put 20 grand in your pocket and put it towards something else. I honestly don’t know if the 242X has better fuel efficiency or worse that would be a factor for me as well.

If you are not committed to the “X” features, the LS-E might be a legitimate option, right in the middle price wise.

Add $1,500 for the Wake wedge and 2 Fat Sacs.

Just an option for you.
