Aluminum Boat Build (video series)

ok I kinda need your help on this to easy my mind. lets say a 1350 spline pto is 9.5" long. I did not fully understand the directions until later. I was shooting for a 1" expansion of the shaft for installation. I ended up with the pto extended 1.25" from being bottomed out. this still leaves me with 2.5" of male/female pto in gauged. will I see wear issues with it installed like this? what is a 1350 pto rated for: how many hp? anyway enjoy this while I do some digging on info.

Do you have bumpers on each end of the PTO shaft? It sounds like you will be close to an issue if you get any flex that increases the distance or if the shaft moves too much one way. If you can find rubber bumpers to mount to the shaft that will take up the extra that should solve for everything but possible flex.

I am loving watching this and after seeing how much time this is taking my dream of building my own 28ft Pavati type boat is quickly disappearing.

after a few emails to Ron Gordon @ American Turbine and some pictures of what I had I got reassurance I'm right on track. my original measurements were off. after getting back home from work and getting real measurments I realized I'm totally fine. my splined shaft inside my pto has 1 7/8" of shaft holding. witch is only 2 1/4" long splines to begin with.

what got me second guessing myself was the 3/4" mentioned in the instructions. turns out that is the minimum clearance for the shaft to be removed without moving the engine. so by me giving 1 1/8" its well within its operating range and can be removed easily.

Glad that you got it figured out @WHITERIVERRAMBO I can't tell you how much I love watching th boat build videos. Keep them coming.

the build is making good gains here in Episode 23........the back deck and engine bay are coming together nicely. don't forget to post your favorite boat name....there is a new updated list!
