Steam! Brilliant! Thanks for the idea @JetBoatPilot I just removed the old material and was preparing for the worst. It came off pretty clean to start with. Went over the swim platform with my steamer and was done in less than an hour. Absolutely no chemicals used.

mine turf was very labor intensive to get off, it had deteriorated badly and most of it was very thin so there was more scraping with a plastic spatula then pulling up sheets. To get the remaining glue and small thin turf patches I also used a steamer that worked well, although it didn't hold much water, I could do about quarter of a panel at a time. The steamer had been sitting in a closet for 2-3 years at least so I'm glad it finally got used.
