Honestly not as much as you would think. The subs protrude about 6 inches into those compartments. I think it depends on your situation though. In my port side compartment, I have 4 batteries and a ballast bag, and a ballast bag in the starboard compartment also, so we don't really use them for storage at all. The boat stays on the lift at our little cabin on the lake, so large storage isn't a need for us. If I were trailering and spending the entire day on the lake without access to more supplies, the storage would be much more important.
How are you guys powering your sound systems? I have 2014 212x that I had two 600 watt amps for my 2 8" tower speakers and 6 6.5" cabin speakers. Currently, I have a dual battery setup but my house battery is being drained in a few hours by my audio system and the boat is not recharging the battery enough to use the audio any more that day. Do I need to add more batteries? If so, how many and what kind works best for this application? If not more batteries, what can I do to compensate for the pull of these amps off my current batteries?
A lot depends on the type of amplifiers you are running, if they are class A, B or AB they are power hungry. I run 2 Class D amps putting out over 1600 watts and have yet to kill my batteries. I have 2-24M deep cycle batteries and trailer my boat and the batteries are on charge when it's in my garage.
Also, be sure to check that your charging system in working, I just fixed an issue with mine right before the season.
