What does it look like outside your door? Here is my backyard. The swingset in the background (notice the hanging rings) and a picnic table in the foreground. Summer anyone?

We got 1" and .25" of ice....so we had a party at our house with neighbors....6+ bottles of wine and a case of beer, Cards Against Humanity....Winter Party!!!

We only got a dusting in the Columbia, SC area. Here is an early picture my wife took of her flamingo. By noon it was all gone.

Looks like we might have 2 inches total!!! LOL But apparently our ice total was closer to 1/2 inch....thus all the power outages. Have friends who've been out since late Friday and power company say it will be late today or early tomorrow before they get it back on for them....

Total white out conditions yesterday afternoon.
Got about 4" at home, but 10"-14" 40 miles south at work.

In Canada when it snows like that we call it Wednesday.

Tuesday here, except almost all my snow just melted. A tip for those who got lots of snow and have cedar hedges its a good idea to brush off the weigh. The bushes deform and often don't spring back into place ever. Cam.

ps The last town I lived we once got 47" overnight. You could tell that it was a snow town as no one was even late for work the next day.

Nice pics everyone, wish we could move some of that snow over here!. I actually would love to see 2' of snow right now, we haven't had a good snow storm like that this year. My snow blower has only been out once this winter, she's kinda sad right now...

We got lucky in Central Arkansas and got a few inches of actual snow rather than the typical ice. The sun on Saturday and Sunday melted most of it already. It is supposed to be sunny and in the 60's this Saturday so I will be getting the boat out. DSC_9269 (1).jpg

Tuesday afternoon and STILL no f'ing plows - so we cleared a path one car wide down the road ourselves with shovels and neighborhood snow blowers. *sigh*

Meh.... I would be calling the local government. That's crazy! You better pay that tax bill on time, right? Pfft.

It's about like that where I live, but instead of it being over the course of 2 days, it's that over the course of a week so instead of snowblowers it's us w/ plows on our trucks and 4-wheelers.

I've seen the news about the snow the East coast was getting, (we now have the tail end of Jonas, but wet and 60mph winds) and we had a feature on BBC radio regarding how the heart attacks go up around this time because of shovelling the snow. Is that true, that its a legal responsibility you guys have to clear any snow outside your house, sidewalks etc?

Yup. Same in the U.P. of Michigan. :)

Of course the "snow towns" have the equipment for that sort of thing and rarely miss a beat keeping the roads clear. In areas where such a snowfall is rare...

I remember my first big storm when I moved to Lower Michigan. I was appalled at the road conditions after only a few inches. There's just too much road and not enough plows to keep up.

Thirty years in Toronto so I know something about snow clearing.

Wanna hear a funny one I found out in preparation for the FIRST letter they're going to get from me?

The state of Minnesota - they know snow, right? - has"nearly 12,000 miles of roads" to clear and 839 pieces of equipment to clear them with.
That's about one per 14.3 miles of road.

Our county has about 1,000 miles of roads... and 100 pieces of equipment. Sooo... snow stopped on Saturday night, to be dug out in some manner by Monday... - thank goodness I'm an engineer because it helps me do the math on this - each one has to clear FIVE MILES OF ROAD PER DAY. Hell, I could do that in an 8 hour shift with my neighbor's f'inig Craftman snowblower!!!!

Pathetic - and I'm not the only one around here that's really pissed.

Follow up: plow came by on Tuesday afternoon - I have an appointment to go to now but wait 'till you see the "after" photos!

For MN, you do have to clear snow from any sidewalks on your property. You also aren't allows to push the snow from your driveway into the street for the city/state plows to clear away.

Beyond that I don't think you legally have to clear the snow, but from a liability standpoint it's probably a good idea. Just think if a delivery person comes to your front door and slips on the snow/ice you didn't clear and injures themselves. You would be on the hook for that injury (home owners policy, etc).
