I'm waiting on a 252S delivery and have a question. Is there risk of serious damage if the tide rolls out and the boat ends up resting on the bottom? I have a very mucky/muddy bottom in a creek off the Chesapeake Bay and suffer severe tidal swings.

Yes. You will get mud in your pumps and who knows what damage to the hull. Get it up on a lift and that won't be a problem.

Yeah that's what I was afraid of. My intention is to get a lift but likely not for a bit. I guess I'll just have to trailer her until I do! Thanks!

At the lowest tide do you see mud ? I boat in shallow areas with muddy bottoms the mud is very forgiving as long as there are no shells or rocks in the mud your boat will dredge an area out if being used . But there is potential for issues a boat lift will be worth it . I think the abbreviation needs to be changed to reflect inflation BOATT break out another ten thousand

It all depends on your sea bed. My boat is moored in front of our house in a shallow bay with tidal swings. It is beached from time-to-time but the bottom is soft & sandy. I just finished pulling my boat our and inspecting the haul and there is not damage. However, I recommend a keel guard.

Go to Home Depot and get some outdoor carpet. Weight it down with some chains attached to opposite sides - chains on the bottom side. Spot ties work good for this. Lay the carpet so the chain ends are parallel to how you pull your boat in. Use trial and error to position the carpet so it will sit under the boat - especially the back end. Problem solved.

Is this something you have done ? I would be concerned that the carpet may suck into the intake that could be a mess if the boat is started or run over the carpet . But if you shut the motor before it’s over the carpet or only start it when it’s over the soft bottom it could work . But at some point it will deteriorate and could shift as waves move it around chain and carpet bound up on the impeller would not be good

I would not want to keep it in the water based on what I’ve seen it do to trailers in this area on the Western Shore. I would consider a floating or inflatable dock if you can swing it. Still several grand but a lot cheaper than a motorized lift.
