BRP in now making outboards

Is it me, or does that swim platform seem like an inefficient use of space? Compared to the natural feel of ours on our Yamahas, it seems like they kind of shoehorned that in and it's way too big to be used for a sitting area. Looks like they extended awkwardly long it to cover the longer outboard?

My personal opinion is that the platform size fits the boat. It would be a great platform for fishing or accessories like a cooler (see post above) and a grill. My guess is that the real reason for the platform size is to be able to tilt the entire motor out of the water:

I was part of a market test for one of these a few years ago. We went to the BRP facility and they had a private lake. It was a pretty cool experience... the boat was in a very rough prototype shape but overall it was pretty decent. For sure an upgrade over your normal pontoon. Seems to me like a evolution of the pontoon more than anything.

For shits and gigs, I will also throw out that other engine manufactures are looking to get into the jetboat game.

I want this Manitou pontoon with the 2.3L Ecoboost Jet that we saw awhile back. I might be able to stomach the $80k at that feature set.

On the Manitou website the BRP outboard seems to only be available in the 115 or 150 hp size. Any bigger, and its a traditional outboard motor.

From a Nov 21st Alumacraft Facebook post: "Winter is coming... but Alumacraft has you covered. Rotax S outboard engines are maintenance free for the first 500 hours or 5 years. For winterization, it's done simply with the push of a button." Interestingly, Alumacraft doesn't currently let you customize a boat on their website using the BRP outboard, despite hyping it up since last August. Maybe because the 150 hp is the largest engine currently offered?

The topic of shallow draft is interesting. As it's a selling point on how shallow our boats will float, but then advise not to run them in less than a certain depth. The ability to "run the engine" in a certain depth should be no different from engine to engine, as it's all up to how much crap you wanna suck through your pump, as they will all run in 3" of water. Probably not advised for any of them.

The river running jetboat guys love the shallow draft, as shallow water in a rushing river may only mean rocks, that may or may not get sucked up. So they only have to worry about their hull. Ours could do the same, but we would never do that with a glass hull.

The question becomes how often are they changing impellers and stator housings, Presumably the stomp grates protect against ingesting the size that will do real damage...

I can say that on plane with my boat I like to have 2-2.5 feet, have I run in 18" briefly? yes, have I run in 12" briefly ? yes. at 12" the skid plate is getting shined up and the cobra jet steering fins shaking the wheel as they bounce in the sand. I really try to avoid that as bad things will happen.... . idling with the gates in forward is no problem in 18" WRT floating, i try to get into 18" or so of water before starting up and ALWAYS with the gates in Forward to avoid blowing stuff off the bottom into the intakes.. just idle into 2-3' of water, drop the trim tab and come up on the throttles to about 7000... on plane in seconds then bleed of the trim tab and throttles back to 6000 or 6500

Murphys rule of jet boating is that if there is something in the water a jet boat will find it and suck it up... towels, baseball hats, crab/lobstah trap bits... ropes, fishing lines, plastic bags... I even sucked up a plastic radio antenna mount one day not to long ago... up a LOL how ever have to tell you there are ALOT of props changed down here and alot of broken skegs even by people who know the water well... in the back country things change constantly and a couple inches in tide one way or another often make a big difference in how your day goes...

carrying a push pole and a collapsible paddle down here is a good idea too...

Reviving an old thread here. This review came across my news feed this morning. I honestly don't hate it. As I was reading I was expecting a price in the $75-80k range, but at $57k it's not like, outlandishly expensive.

Definitely a funky design, but I like the fact there is no giant engine that eats up the additional footage of the boat to work around. Forward thinking on BRP for the design.
