I just bought a aluminum trailer for my 2012 sx240. So now I am left with a very very well maintained painted trailer.

I have seen online people building their own campers and I was thinking what yall think about it?

PS. I could always try to sale it, but it is in such a good shape that I hate to give it away for scrap metal

How long can you hold it to sell it? It's worth 1200+ to someone needing a trailer that size for their boat. If you are willing to wait for a buyer, they will eventually show up.

If you want to build a camper, consider the cost of a good used one vs your investment and time needed. It may be much easier to sell the trailer and get something closer to what you need. You can still buy cheap and gut it all, but it's not a piece of cake to start from absolute scratch.

Thank you for the feedback.
I can wait for summer until end of June. Maybe longer

I would list it, all free ways possible and hold on to it for a few weeks to see if it sells.

Not sure on your skill level to build a camper from scratch, but it would not be a piece of cake for me by any means. Starting with a camper would be much easier.

Only you will live with the consequences of your actions, so I wish you the best however you decide to proceed.

Edit: meant to say "for me"

Agree.....list it for sale on the major sites like Craigslist and I'm sure someone will want it. Not sure it is worth $1200+, guess that depends on how long you want to sit on it....

I once converted an old camper into a cheap enclosed trailer. Guy could not get rid of the thing as it had been very neglected and I got it for $500. I sold the heater for $300, the water heater for $100. the stove for $50 and a fisherman found the fresh water tank to be useful in his pickup bed in trade for a gun. The parts were all older too. The reason why is camper parts are expensive to buy a la carte. Aluminum square tube for the box is not cheap. The roofing, siding, and windows are expensive and you have not even started on the interior yet.

I ended up using the camper gutted and converted to cargo trailer for a few years and sold it to a lumberjack which he it turn used for a kiln to dry lumber for the house he was building.

I am all for using things for other than the intended purpose when it makes sense but in this case I say sell the boat trailer and buy a camper for less than the sum of its parts.

Will a ‘09 230 fit on a ‘12 240 trailer properly?
Let’s find that out....

I couldn't come close to building one for the cost of buying one! Buy a used truck camper and mount it on the trailer. Otherwise just but a rv trailer.

I am sure it will. The banks are adjustable left right up down and post moves front and back.

I will you a PM with some pictures. Given the discouraging remarks so far, it looks like I will have to sale it. And if that is the case nothing will make me happier than another jetboater having it.

Seems like there would be some engineering involved to get the weight right, and the weight at the right part of the trailer
You can get travel trailers pretty cheap these days.

Bubble has been properly bursted and the trailer was sold this morning for full asking price ( $1,500)

more money for mods ........

AWESOME.

If you want a camper that will provide a fantastic project trailer to build on.

Higher pedestal is a cool under appreciated mod. Same for alternative throttle binacle.

Enjoy spending your money!!!!
