Did we damage an engine?

Hmmm, so I might be over my head for fixing it myself, the impeller itself looks fine with no scratches or dings.
I took it out for some testing this morning, with the other engine at 5k rpms, putting this engine over 8k causes it to cavitate and rpm surge. With both engines up over 8k I can feel vibration in that throttle but don't get the full cavitation/rpm surge.
 
Something as small as fishing line wrapped around the shaft could cause the cavitation.

Hmm, I pulled everything apart and haven't found anything yet. Gonna pull the other side apart for comparison and see if I can spot a difference.
 
I can't say for sure; but believe I would get some cavitation if running one engine at only 5k and the other at 8k due to the extra "tug" being forced on the higher rpm engine. I don't have a 230 so my max rpm is only 8k. If you feel a significant difference from before, I don't discount the issue; but I just want to make sure your aren't chasing rainbows and unnecessarily stressing yourself out. It is cool to work on these boats, so have at it, I just don't want it to ruin your summer if the boat still gets top speed. Come winter, you could refurb impellers and possibly replace the wear ring section. Depending on total hours, you might want to do both sides for a total "pump rejuvenation".

Ya, there is definitely a difference between the right and left engines with it, I can do the same thing with opposite engines and get no vibration or cavitating. I am not going to let it stop me from running it on the weekend but am curious what is causing it.

I did get the bilge pump fixed today, pulling it out and spinning it a little there must have been something tiny stuck in it, tested and working fine now.
