Pulled the boat out of the garage to wash/clean the vinyl, add new tags etc and noticed this on both OEM Shorlandr Carlisle tires. Boat has always been stored indoors. No salt water.

Never seen a tire crumble like this before. You run your finger over it and it just rubs off the sidewall.

It’s not dirt, it’s more like pilling, crumbling rubber.

Looks like dry rot from here. Have to feel it to be certain.

Mine has the same little cracks by the tread. That other grainy stuff looks like something on the tire vs the tire itself degrading, but it’s hard to tell from a picture.

Looks to me like it hit another trialer while being moved.

I'd check the production date on the sidewall, that could tell ya' everything you need to know (just old tires, almost look original, non-radial?)

I had similar going on with my tires last summer so replaced them all. Had more years on them though, so that is odd. I just didn't want to be that guy on the side of the road with trailer tire issues and was seeing too many things like this so knocked it out. Radial all the way with new including the spare for good measure which the spare ended up being the original bias tire so to me that was a must.

Look on the tire sidewall for the DOT info. Last item is a 4 digit number, which is the manufacture date. First 2 digits are week #, Last 2 digit are the year. Ex: 0516 would be the 5th week of 2016

I was planning on replacing the Chinese bias plies anyway. I just missed the two year warranty on the tires as I brought the boat home in Feb 2019.

This weird condition just sped up the decision...
