Fix for Connext Battery Voltage Issue - Confirmed

Sorry guys I was calling the SPU (switching power unit is what I think that stands for) a gateway and the Yamaha naming is SPU. Switching power unit is the hardware term in a boat or car and I was thinking of it in more computer terms as I am a global enterprise data geek. Please forgive how I relate things in my brain coming out in how I describe things here.

Thanks @Mainah . I was just not clearly understanding how two capped off red wires headed up front to the Connext screen could be sending any voltage reading. Now I think I understand that they are not supposed to ? That voltage reading is coming straight off the batteries after the mod ?

Bingo. before the mod the SPU is reading the volatge from the leads coming off from the power distribution block and sending that reading to as a proprietary NEMA 2000 string to connext to display. The power distribution block appears to be the culprit causing the continuity. The mod simply connects the SPU directly to the batteries. I like that for two reasons; It fixes the the continuity issue and it provides a direct reading without running into added resistance or interference.

Has anyone found a source (part number) for the "female barrel connector" that @Mainah references in this thread ? I have exhausted all my sources in Lexington. My boat is 100 miles away from home on the lake and I'm trying to gather all supplies needed to make this mod on the water next trip. I'm not even sure what gauge wire is used coming out of the gateway wiring harness but would much prefer running a new one from harness to battery opposed to cutting and splicing the existing ones.

I should be able to get that info soon. Fianlly unwrapping the boat.

Thats a BEAUTIFUL sight when its coming off. Not so much when its going on !! Thanks

Sorry , not sure that url link to DigiKey works like I thought it would ? The DigiKey part number is A100694CT-ND

Not so sure that's the right part number. My search results came up with the below however the second pic is the actual female connector needed. IMG_0940.PNG

Thanks Rod5 ! Great pictures but definitely not what I thought it was or the part on DigiKey ? Have you completed the mod on your boat ? Did you splice into that wire or reuse that crimp terminal in your hand ?

No waiting to see what the correct crimp connector is so I don't have to "cut" the factory wire harness.

Looks like really thin wire ? What do you think 16-18 maybe even 20 gauge ? Stranded or solid ?

Well its not a standard deutsch or molex female barrel pin. It is a a lot like a dt 16-20 but capture point near the bottom is the what I can't seem to find anywhere. @Julian do I recall you saying that you got your hands on some of these when you replaced your spu? Anyway to get a part number or order a few hundred of these for the group?

I tried pulling the plug apart to see if there were any other hidden identifiable marks no luck... IMG_0652.JPG

Please spill the beans on how you got that apart!!!

@Mainah No...I wasn't able to get my hands on any parts :-(
How to pull the individual wire & pin or how to separate the housing which you don't needed to do in order to pull the wires & pins out?

Thanks Coheeba ! I'm hopeful you may be onto something ? I ordered a dozen and will report back when they arrive.
