I have used the raw water washdown on my 255 FSH all summer without any issues.

I close the valve on the spray hose, flip the switch on for the raw water pump, the system pressurizes and the pump turns off. The pump only turns on when somebody opens the valve on the hose and then turns off again when the valve on the hose is turned off and the system repressurizes.

I decided to fill the fresh water tank last weekend and use fresh water instead of lake water for the washdown.

I used the same hose and Barb, I just swapped which part the hose was plugged into.

When I turned on the fresh water switch, water began pulsating out of the hose and I could hear the pump turn on and off repeatedly. I verified that the valve on the hose was closed. I also noticed that when I open the valve on the hose the pump worked as expected and stayed on and the water did not pulsate. But anytime I tried to close the valve on the hose, the pump would turn on and off (about once a second) squirting water out of the hose in a pulsating manner.

I'm assuming that the pump is generating too much pressure? As the hose worked just fine with the raw water wash down. I suppose it's also possible that I have a faulty hose.

I'm wondering if anybody else has seen this issue? I figured it was worth a post before I start digging in the engine compartment. Worst case scenario, no one has any ideas and I hopefully end up posting a solution for anyone else who runs into this issue.

Thank you.

The pump is functioning as intended.
Where exactly is the water leaking because that is why the pump is cycling. Fix the leak and the pump will stop running.

Sounds like the hand held sprayer is leaking?

Pictures help a lot.

Maybe try plugging it back in the raw water port to check the hose. Or, if you think the fresh water pump is working too hard, perhaps there is a filter clogged from using the raw water and it’s trying to push through it.(?) I think there is a screen right at the sprayer itself that you can unscrew and clean out.

When I have the fresh water washdown pump switched on, the hand held sprayer always lets some amount of water out, all be it not a full stream. It just never completely shuts off, it cycles trying to keep the pressure built up.l

I understand how the pump works and that it shuts down once pressure builds up in the line.

The hose works correctly with the raw water pump. Everything pressurizes and the pump shuts down. I was assuming that there was too much pressure generated by the freshwater pump because I don't have this issues with the raw water pump.

I could have a bad hose, but I wasn't sure if the hose was intended to relieve excess pressure if there was too much pressure in the line. If that was the case the pump would need to be adjusted.

When I have the freshwater pump on and the hose valve on, everything works fine, the pump is on as it should be. When I shut the valve on the hose off is when the problem starts and the pump starts cycling.

The fact that it works correctly with the raw water washdown (the hose doesn't leak) lead me to believe that the pump pressure might be too high.
