Got a new towing rig! ...and mods to 1500 Ram

Congratulations.....now let's see some pictures!

Congrats!

Congrats @Murf'n'surf! I like your ride! Pulled the trigger on a new 2014 Ram 1500 last month. First non GM truck I have owned and love it so far. Mine has the Hemi with a 3.92 rear axle and it will get up and go! Plus, love the 10,300lb tow rating. Looking forward to pulling the boat with this truck. I am impressed with the gas mileage so far. Drove to Houston the other day and got 22 mpg driving 75-80 mph with a little bit of a tailwind. Noticed in your picture you have the 9 speaker Alpine system. For a stock system it sounds awesome in my opinion. My wife was in the back seat the other day while my daughter was messing with the stereo and she asked why her butt was vibrating! :D

Yes, the factory stereo system is quite nice. Here are some early-morning shots of the truck. I have too many trucks at my house I had to take the work truck back so no driving my new baby today!

First mods lined up are Jailbreaking the Uconnect screen and adding a cargo cam and front cam. The jailbreak also lets you enter data into the Nav dydtem while moving. I was looking at adding an amp and new sub from kicker but I think the system sounds good enough for now.

Interested in knowing how to jailbreak the Uconnect. Like the idea of adding the cargo and front cam.

Thanks for the vid and link. Will check them out this evening.

Mine is the "got everything" system with the back up cam. I cannot wait to hook up the boat the first time and not use telescoping, magnet base with tennis ball rig. I usually end up hooking up by myself.

Thanks a lot!!! Now I HAVE to do this!
Lol. I just ordered the silver package. I'm going to order an OEM 3rd brake light with camera from Dodge soon.

Here's a more comprehensive video.
@BravoMike Do you have a Laramie?

No, I have the Lone Star 1500. Has the 8.4" screen with Nav and Alpine stereo upgrade along with a lot of other upgrades.

Man I'm jealous of you guys with those fancy Ram Trucks! I went with the cheap basic Express version, without that fancy city boy leather and electronics stuff. hehehehehe I would have loved a Laramie, but when I bought my '14 last year the Blackout was only available on the Express. I loved the look and style of the Blackout, and how well it matched the boat.

@Murf'n'surf I traded in my '03 SLT on this truck, and the 5.7 pulls the 242 like a dream. The '03 struggled, the '14 doesn't even sweat. Awesome truck, congrats!

@cane.mba What motor did you have in the 'o3? Was it the 8 speed transmission? I'm still getting used to so many darn shifts off the line!

Nice truck @BravoMike I debated going with black as I'm a semi professional auto detailer and enjoy shining up black paint but I don't have the time lately to keep black looking showroom.

I've updated the Uconnect with the jailbreak version and now have the addition camera/video inputs and the speed lockout. My cargo cam and front cam are ordered. I might put a y in one rca feed to have the ability to play movies from my iPhone on the dash screen for the little guy during long road trips.

@Murf'n'surf I was not really in the market for a black truck. Love them when clean, but hard to keep clean. Dealers around here were giving 2014 models away cheap...got mine for 10,500 under sticker. Was looking for one with specific options suck as the 5.7 Hemi, 3.92 rear axle, anti-spin, sunroof, etc. This was the only one I could find that met my needs/wants. They even did a nation wide search to see if there was one in another color. Like you, I am just now getting used to the 8-speed tranny and all the shifts. The other thing I am having a hard time getting used to is the shift knob. I keep reaching for the column shifter, then to the center console thinking I am in the wife's car. My daughter laughs at me when she is with me.

About the only thing I want to do other than jail-breaking the Unconnect you referenced above is install a BackFlip bed cover in the next couple weeks. So far, love this truck!

I'm undecided on what bed cover I want to get. Losing 8-10" of bed space doesn't sound good so I will keep looking.

There's a wholesaler in Ocala Florida that has good deals on a wide range of covers. I can't remember their website at this moment
