Help!!! Forgot keys and on vacation :(

Long story short. Just pulled in from a 930 mile drive and just realized the keys are at home. Any suggestions? 2015 AR240. [USERGROUP=9]@HELP[/USERGROUP]

OUCH!! Been there, done that. (except I was only 23 miles away from home)

We now keep a spare set in both tow vehicles .... just in case.

I was able to get mine made from a local locksmith, didn't have to go to a boat dealer, lowes won't have it but many actual locksmiths do,

First off. You guys are the best. Thanks again!

I got two keys locally and they had them in stock from Marine Specialties. Leaving to pick them up now!

That's great. Did they have key blanks? Or actually the correct key precut for your code? Either way, I guess you'll be having fun on the water soon.

Fwiw, I leave my second set hidden in the boat. That way I won't get stranded if the keys go missing when we're far from the dock.

This thread is a really good reminder that I need to have like 4 extra sets of keys made for my boat. Lol. Glad you got it worked out @McMark. Smyrna is an awesome place. Haven't been with the boat yet. Be sure to post some pictures!

They had the keys in stock. I was working a couple different angles for keys and my dealer back home is overnighting a pair to me as well.

I mistakenly pulled a 4 digit number off the cylinder (probably the mfg part number). There's a 3 digit on the other flat that I couldn't see under the console. So they are all still 3 digit.

@McMark Hope you enjoy the rest of your vacation. New Smyrna is a great place, I used to visit often when I lived east of Orlando.

Ouch...been there, done that. Luckily when I bought my boat, I put the spare set of keys on the ring with my house keys and just never got around to removing them. After that, I always kept those keys on my house ring.

Hopefully you'll be able to get a spare today and then go enjoy your vacation.

I dunno man... if you lose those you'll be unable to start the boat AND locked out of the house! :D

I have a set in my boat as well, just in case a kid throws mine in the lake.....or forget/lose the others which stay in my truck if not in the boat.

I keep a set of camper keys in my truck at all times as well, I forgot those one time‍♂️

This is the exact reason why I leave my keys in my Truck.. both sets.

@Mainah, have your looked into this circuit enough to know which wires to connect and which wire to temporarily short to start the engine?

This can be easily done on any Yamaha boat including the new x series. Somewhat related; I have cobbled together a security system for my boat from a automotive alarm system and some other electronics parts. Lets just say the system is unique, no false alarms, and 100% reliable. I will only share details with folks that I trust with a verbal NDA so please don't ask unless you believe you are someone that I would share this with.

You sir, have WAY too much time on your hands. . . . . But I sure do love your work .= )

I just leave them in the ignition when it's on the trailer. If someone is going to seal the boat they probably won't even look to see if the keys are there. Even at the dock I'll stash them in the boat.

Just in case you want to just short wires as a last resort View attachment 55854
Not to hijack the thread, this is ignition related but looking at this schematic, it looks like it would be pretty straight forward to convert to a single key ignition with a dual push button start with very minimal parts? I saw the thread about push button but I do not want something fancy with a computer and RFID, I just would like a single key and simple push button. Am I wrong?

You could, but why? It's pretty easy to turn a key compared to pushing a button.
Couple of reasons, 1 - I hate where the keys currently are. I have had keys bent twice so far because people press up against them. 2 - I do not see a need for two keys. 3- I like the idea of a kill switch as opposed to always turning the keys on and off, the connext doesn't like it, I would rather hit a button to kill the ignition and leave the keys on so I can use my system. 4 - Push start is cool.

My keys never/EVER leave the ignition......lol

You'll have to tap off the lanyard to kill the engines without shutting off the power. Or you could just pull the lanyard when you want the engines off but key on. It should be easy to wire both keys off of one key and use a push button for the starter on the second engine. If you want push start for both you'll need two buttons. Two more kill switches if you want to turn them off separately. That might get a little tricky and involve understanding the lanyard kill switch operation as it relates to each engine.
