image.jpg So I'm West of Houston headed back to home with my boat. Guy in the left lane decided to merge into my lane and hit the boat:-/

Just scratched and worst part is it tore my brand new cover.

Ouch! Glad you all made it out safe. Hopefully HE had insurance.

How the f$&k do they miss a bright red boat in their mirrors? Oh wait, that would require them to use mirrors. Welcome to Texas! I'll. have to drag you out to Canyon lake some time this fall. Water is good for swimming well into October. Good for boating until nov or dec.

That totally sucks! Hope he has good insurance and you get the cover replaced....thats a $1500 cover!

Unbelievable @Wayloncle ! And you wrecked both your cars on the first trip over due to similar circumstance.

Super dis un antilike.

On the bright side, the idiot could have done some real damage to the boat... or you. Glad you are safe.

His lane ended, I guess he missed all the signs saying it was going to end, I'm not sure if he just waited for my truck to go by then merged without seeing the big ass boat beside him or he thought he was running out of room and thought it was better to hit me than ride on the shoulder or slow down to get behind me.

He was real nice, it was a rental van full of twenty something's coming back from a weekend on New Orleans.

When the cop got there the guy riding with him said "his boat hit the van" I was about to correct him and the driver said he merged and we hit...I don't like that there is no police report, the officer said since it is not major we just both fill out a form and mail it in, no fault will be assigned. That sounds like it means that I will be stuck with my deductible, I'll find out more tomorrow when I talk to the insurance.

Oh, fault will be assigned. Just not by the police (meaning they won't issue a citation). Insurance companies will hash it out.

Did you get pictures of where it happened? The ending lane, etc.?

This sucks Waylon.

Make sure you notify the rental company they used also. I doubt they reported it to them.

This really sucks @Wayloncle as you already know! I'm so sorry that you're having to deal with this stuff just to get moved. As we all know there are lots of idiots out there that shouldn't be anywhere near a motor vehicle. I had a lady back into my parked and empty, thank goodness, boat trailer two weeks ago. My wife had just parked it and was getting ready to lock the toolbox when the truck lurched about 6". It was on a steep hill and the woman couldn't figure out how to get up the incline and backed down the hill and into my trailer. My wife got all of her info and had to drive her vehicle up the hill for her so that she wouldn't do it again. The lady was totally freaking out my wife said. The only damage was a crushed Boat Buckle and a scratch on the rear cross beam of the trailer. My insurance company has already cut me a check and is going after the lady's company for my deductible and assume responsibility. I hope this incident goes as smoothly for you as it did for me.

I am today, the rear side window is busted out so it'll be hard to hide that!

Not of the road, we didn't stop on the road I saw the exit and headed for it. I wrote in my report where it was and lanes and all.

Another time that cameras on the truck would be helpful:-/ @Big Shasta

I am glad no-body was hurt. The boat can and will be fixed. If there is no fault assigned by the police I think you will have a hard time getting your deductible back. I know my Insurance will fight something s and not others. It seems to depend on what they have to gain. Hopefully you will end up square and everything good as new.

Am I the only guy that completed a crash report for every incidence of 2 motor vehicles colliding? I don't understand this no report stuff at all! And then when a shopping cart hits a parked car its a damage to vehicle report.... Always reports!

I don't understand the no reporting stuff, I would think they would require a police report be done.

LOL...Yeah, hard to hide that......and they had a noisy/hot ride back. I'd just hate for them to play it off like something else happened and not say it was a collision with another vehicle. Did they take the insurance when they rented it?

In North Carolina if it isn't $1000.00 worth of damage (road side estimate) the insurance companies don't require a report.. especially if it is clear cut who is at fault like a lane ending... or hitting someone in the back...

But that's the point. A scratched bumper could be $1k after the body shop is done with it. Car parts and refinish work is so expensive that a $1000 limit pretty much includes everything. I don't know, I always asked myself (would j want my parents to have a report on this?)

Really sorry that happened. People really don't have a clue how to drive anymore and the drivers exams are a joke.

Not sure what size boat yours is, but the heavy weight Yamaha cover for my SX190 listed at $749.99 on the box sticker. I could email you a pic of the box sticker if that would help you out to ensure the insurance pays for a new one.

A police report really wouldn't do you any good? The cops didn't witness the accident and can't testify to any of it after the fact. They might assign fault on the report & write a ticket, but its up to the insurance compaines to fight it out regardless. Police Officers that aren't witnesses to the actual crash can only testify what damage they saw, not what actually happened. So you can email the pictures you took to your insurance company and that will provide better proof for them to accept your claim.

Hope its a speedy repair process for you.

That's what I mentioned to the officer, just the cover is $800, fender on the trailer will put it over $1K, then you have the scratch and rub rail repair. He considered it minor and went on his way.
