I'm never driving from FL to TX again. (Guy hit my boat).

LOL...Yeah, hard to hide that......and they had a noisy/hot ride back. I'd just hate for them to play it off like something else happened and not say it was a collision with another vehicle. Did they take the insurance when they rented it?
I don't think he did, he couldn't tell me if he got extra insurance or not. So he gave me his personal insurance info as well.

That's what I mentioned to the officer, just the cover is $800, fender on the trailer will put it over $1K, then you have the scratch and rub rail repair. He considered it minor and went on his way.

Here in the ridiculousness that is MD a report only gets written if someone is injured/or claims injury and takes an ambulance ride and/or a vehicle gets towed away by a police requested tow. Damage value doesn't matter, but maybe it does elsewhere. I think you'll be good for sure if he merged into you.

Yup. $7,500 in damage to a (rental!) car we were driving when some idiot (with a policy from one of those guys that advertise on TV about insuring the uninsurable...) changed lanes into us but since it was "drivable" no way they would even come out to look.

@Wayloncle - I hope that this is the "third time's a charm" event for you and that's the end of this crap for you and your family!

Well the other thing you need to understand is...people lie, alot. To get out of paying and to get money from fraudulent insurance claims.

If the at fault party just took the responsibility and the insurance companies paid without arguing there wouldn't be any issues. Typically the only ones that know exactly what happened are involved in the crash...not the cops. The insurance companies & lawyers are the problem.

Either way to the OP, really sorry it happened.

So guess what I just got in the mail?

A check to refund my deductibles!

Every month my insurance, Seaworthy by way of Geico, has sent a letter to the guy that was driving the van and his insurance company, they send me a copy every time they send something to them. They always say "we haven't gotten a response, we expect payment within x days".
The last time I talked to my adjuster she said they haven't heard anything at all from the guy or his insurance (progressive). They have sent 3 people out to take photos of my boat, but I would never hear anything else from them.

So tomorrow I will call Progressive and cancel my camper insurance with them and swap it over to Geico, it's a long story why I didn't have them all under the same company to begin with.

Their persistence paid off!

Hummm I have progressive boat insurance! They have treated me well and are reasonable. I had a small claim this year where I needed a little fiberglass repaired and they did it no hassel. But they are the only boat insurance I have had too. Other may be a lot better.

I've never had to file a claim or anything with them, they did what was right in this situation, just took them 8 months:-)
Truthfully, I never expected them to pay, all the insurance companies had to go off of was the reports that I filled out and the one the other guy filled out. He said I hit him, I told the truth and explained how his lane ended and he merged into me, I figured it would just be a he said/he said ordeal and no fault would be assigned.

As soon as I got the letter from his insurance saying I owed them for damaging the van I called them and explained what happened, the lady said "oh, ok" and i really haven't heard from them since. If the other guy would have called when he got the letter, it probably would have helped in his defense....but I'm glad he didn't:-)

Sorry to hear that, been there myself, the insurance companies don't get too worked up unless someone is hurt, that is where the big problems come in. My company covered my damages to the ski and trailer and his company covered the damage to my van when the guy slammed in to me on the interstate claiming someone cut him off so he drove into me to avoid the other guy , remember if they cut you off aim at the drivers door they deserve it LOL. I did get my deductible back from my insurance company once the other side claimed full responsibility. Hopefully you will get all of it covered by their insurance since it was a rental van their coverage was adequate, my accident involved someone with the minimum coverage so they didn't have enough to cover all the damage.
