Keep the mods coming......Living vicariously through many of you!

Hey @MattFX4 . I used a 5 inch hole saw for the 6.5 speaker holes. Based on what I found on your speaker choice (a very good one, by the way) you also have a 5" cut out. If you do not have a hole saw and don't want to pay the money, you can use a dremel or similar with the attachement to make circles. With the 10" Sub hole, I started that way but ran into issues with the bit loosening up all the time, so I switched to my jig saw and very steady hand. I drew the circle and followed it around with my jig saw. No matter what method you use, cover the entire area with masking tape to avoid much chipping and marring the gel-coat surrounds.

I mounted the EQ straight to the underside of the helm with 1" screws after drilling pilot holes first. I made a hole just large enough to pass the RCA wired through. That hole was tight. I fought with the last few RCA jacks getting through since there was additional wired in the hole taking up space. That hole was right behind the EQ and not noticeable.

For the Sub, make sure you have a ring behind it to mount to. As a matter of fact, I had to order a 3 pack and have no need for the other 2. If you do not have one PM me your address and I will send 1 to you free of charge.

Good luck!

Ah ok thanks. I already have a ring on order or would take you up on that offer. Thanks, Matt

Wow, looks really good. What paint did you use? And did you take the steering wheel off to paint it?
Hah, thanks! Admittedly it turned out a million times better than I thought! I ordered a new steering wheel and put it on but the diameter of it was too small and the wheel was just flimsy. You can see it here in this pic.

I'll have to find the can of paint when I get home and let you know. Yea I took it off to paint. Just the 6 allen screws hold it on. Simple to take off.

My sister inlaw just gave my wife and I this (a 12v fridge) for our up coming wedding anniversary. I don't think it will mount correctly anywhere but in the head compartment of the boat. If can get it through the door maybe I will try and mount it in the head/toilet.

I have one of those @Ronnie, they work really well. If I remember right, they will cool to about40 degrees below the ambient air temp. So your definitely going to want to keep it out of the sun.

@scot71 , thanks for the feedback. If it fits in the head compartment, preferably on top of the head, that's where it will go. I'd rather put it unde the west where the stock ice chest goes but it looks to big for that space and I'd have to lay it on its back. In either location I'd need to run power (no big deal) but in the head compartment I'd have to figure out a way to secure it (bungee cords across the front would block the door, over the top and into the floor maybe an option). The kicker is using a conventional hard or soft cooler never bothered me. This is one gift I wish I would have been asked about before it was purchased.

I test fitted the fridge and confirmed that it will only fit in the head compartment and only as pictures of I want proper access to its contents while on the water. This is fine as I can always remove it if anyone need to use the head/ports potty. My plan is to secure it in place with two bungee cords hooked to four eye hooks screwed into the wall behind it. I will also see how long it will run when powered by a jump pack or separate 12v PWC battery because I don't want to run power into that compartment this season (as far as I'm concerned mods are done for the year and if I was going to run separate power to this I want to use heavier gauge wire than I currently have in that area of the boat).

You may also want to see how hot it gets that compartment...and may need to add an extractor fan....pity it wouldn't fit on the shelf.

Damn this thread is creating too big a list of ideas for the new boat! I've already got the following on the list:

  1. Jetboaters.net Sparetire cover, stickers, and a boat name!
  2. Fume detector with blower control--my favorite safety mod -need to figure out where to mount it (see sig for last boat's install)
  3. Garmin GPSMAP 541 mounting, wiring, transducer install
  4. Closet organizer mods.....needs to lay eyes on it but considering, shoe organizer, shelves, fridge, portapottie, hooks
  5. Need to see how sound system works on the 242X....may want to add easier zone control/fader
  6. Bow/cockpit cover---longer term...depends on how easy it will be to put the mooring cover on while in the slip...never installed one with a tower
oh I'm sure there are more!
