ok necessity is the mother of invention... or at least copying... i had one cover out of 4 that had not failed to pull a mold for making these outta fiberglass... so were pullin top and bottom half molds for these and I'll mill some solid bar 6061-t6 stock to bond in to tap for screws... we'll bond the upper and lower together with Six10...

It looks great. I know I wrote before and you were not interested in making any, but I need starboard and port and would be interested.

well I pulled a tom saywer... Im not actually dong the work... a buddy of mine is making the molds and will be looking to make a few sets for interested parties.. I contributed the fiberglass mat the bonded in aluminum bar stock and the West System Six10 to complete the prototypes... he is doing the mold making and the Gel Coat layup work... these will be top and bottom half black gel coat fiberglass layups... epoxied together and have a hinge nut strip bonded in only... the rest will be up to the purchaser... we may source some edge protector channel but that is TBD. as near as we can tell there is no differnce between port and starboard... there may be slight variations boat to boat so we're prolly gonna let you drill and tap your hinge mounts and install the latches...

and if these come out well we may make 'glass versions of the dry storage bins, and the cleanout trays... the plastic just disintegrates after time...

Im booked up with HO Pump builds, some sailboat stainless welding jobs, and some structural engineering work for an electric catamaran so I prolly wont get to finishing the prototypes till Oct-Nov this year then ill see what the plan is... If I were to guess I suspect we will not produce finished products just the top and bottom halves for DIY bond together and finish.... prolly be choice of black or white gel coat

ok the plan is to finish the prototype sets over the Christmas break and get then on my boat and decide what is next...

i have to figure out the molding prolly use neoprene "C" moulding...

ok so i decided to have a look at finishing this up today... needed to figure out a way to index these so i think i'll use the latch bolt holes...

got one hatch lid epoxied together... take 2 tubes of Six10 per hatch... Ran outta clamps.... its setting on some 4x4's underneath so the weight of the clamps on the outside is holding the center along with the locating screws through the latch holes...

came out strong... these are not frail at all!! the nominal thickness is 1/4" at the edges a little thicker in the center... A little clean up on the edges and 1/4" u channel moulding will be perfect... the black gel coat should buff up nicely...

sanded up nice... i'm gonna order some neoprene U channel...
