Guest, we are pleased to announce that Hydrophase Ridesteady is offering an extra $100 off for JETBOATERS.NET members on any Ridesteady for Yamaha Speed Control system purchased through March 7th, 2025. Ridesteady is a speed control system (“cruise control”) that uses GPS satellites or engine RPM to keep your boat at the set speed you choose. On twin engine boats, it will also automatically synchronize your engines.
Thanks. My issue is the size of the Bazooka subwoofer. It is much larger than yours and it would take up a large portion of that storage area. We currently use this area to store a lot of our stuff that we use frequently.
Does your subwoofer have a built in amp or do you plug it directly into an amp that you have on your boat?
I'll take that lump of coal someone got up there. Here in Lake Tahoe Land, it was +2 degrees the last two mornings. Yesterday ya couldn't see across the lake because of all of the steam coming off of it.
At least we are now <6 months until the first day of summer....
"Santa wife" got me my JL 7.7 and my second sub box. Luckily i got eoungh amazon gift cards to get my other JL10" sub so the only thing ill need is another 6 Channel amp. So by summer i should be rocking 6 (3 pairs) of JL 6 1/2", 2 JL 7.7, 2 JL 10" Subs and 2 6 channel JL amps. Thats only using 10 of the 12 channels.....might need some JL 8.8's to round it all out in my SX240View attachment 49430
They cut the whole in the side of the seat behind the driver, but it was not giving me the bass i wanted do i left the grill on (to cover the hole) there and moved the sub to a box where the cooler gos. It hits much harder. But the 2nd one i want to put on the otherside but not sure if it will fit. Its 84 here in FL so i am taking the family out and ill have to dry fit it to see. Worse case ill sit it next to the other one.
@Drift Away becareful putting subs away from each other on opposite sides. If not set up correctly, the bass sound can be pin pointed. Better to have all subs in one centralized location. But with careful tuning you can get away with them on different locations.
So moving the sub to a box under the seat compartment made a big difference in sound compared to the sub being mounting in fiberglass below seat? Mine is currently mounted in fiberglass like yours was, and I'm not blown away with how it sounds either. Sure it puts out pretty good bass, but I want more bump. My sub is an IB sub so I guess I would have to get a different type sub if I were to put in box under the seat.
@MattFX4 I believe it's difficult to get the hard thump out of free mounted subs. Would need to get an enclosure to get the bass you are looking for. The new 24' boats have plenty of room to get different configurations.

Thanks Flo. Any experience mounting an IB sub in an enclosure? Specs on JL website say it requires 2-2.5 cu ft. Seems like I would be better off changing sub out to a m10w5.
@MattFX4 I am not familiar with IB subs. Never been a believer in them really lol. The only issue I see with IB subs are, they are typically not made to be used with enclosures but rather the free air in the space or storage area they would be installed in. That's the main reason for such big cu box spec. Another reason I am not a believer in such subs. To get the punch one is looking for in a boat I recommend ported boxes but that's not always the case. Seal can be good but usually not enough output from them as you would see from a properly spec built ported box. Look at my 10" JL w3v3 I have listed on the classifieds. That enclosure with the sub combo can compete with many (2) 12" sub setups. In my experience, subs are all about the enclosures they are in. A cheap sub can sound magnificent with proper enclosure while an expensive sub could sound terrible with improper built enclosure. My last boat with that 1 ten setup gave me plenty of thump out in the water to go with my tower speakers. Everyone asked if I had 2 twelves in there.

Every subwoofer is a tuned resonator of sorts and has certain or unique damping properties. The same can be said for an enclosure, whether small or infinite. The key to optimum performance is to correctly match the subwoofer with the enclosure.
So your suspicion is correct. A true IB sub will not work well in any enclosure that is too small to represent an infinite baffle, which is 2.25 cu.ft. minimum or larger.
