Mirror Mirror on the wall....who's the cheapest bastard of them all?

I had 4-5 gallon gas cans that I'd haul down to our dock to fill up my houseboat's 140 gallon tank. It was part of my Friday night ritual of moving onto the boat for the weekend. Yes, it's against the marina's rules to fuel your own boat, but everyone did it, and after paying $565/mo for a slip fee and terrible service, I was happy to stick it to the marina for this.

When we built our new house, I extended the garage depth by 4' and added an 8' tall door so the runabout would fit in the garage. No more slip fees for me!

My marina is $13 more per fill up. Happy to pay that to avoid hassle of putting all those jugs into the boat one at a time. But $25-$50
Per fill up and over I would consider it

ME!! That's who!? Here's how far I'm willing to go to not pay the extra $25 per tank convenience fee at the Marina where my boat is slipped.......

Anyone else go out of their way to refuse to pay the ridiculous premium they charge for gasoline?!?

I have to say I am jealous if you recently bought all those vented cans!!!

For us in the states we have to have a drill bit and modify our cans to have the vents.

And while I haven’t done that for the boat YET, it was a consideration...

BUT, I do have enough cans (had more, some need replacing) to probably fill an empty ~70 gal tank... Only because when we snowmobile north of the border we need to haul gas. The cabin is a fair distance from civilization!!! So you fill up at a station when out, and fill back up when you return to the cabin.

Why would the cans not be vented down there?!? seems crazy to not have a vent!! I'm actually looking into a local gas / diesel delivery company installing a 500 gallon tank at my house next season!

Because of the stupid government!!!

Part of it is spillage... To prevent any gas spilling. But these new cans don’t allow vapors to escape, so when you open them the usually spit some gas out, which is always a safe thing!!!

Part of it is due to kids playing with cans, and now they have some sort of nozzle that’s needs to be twisted, then pushed in some to open the valve....

Then another is because of the gas evaporating... the cans keep the fumes/gases in....

I looked into buying cans in the Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario area, but they were the ventless (spout had a “vent built in”) at the time.... They didn’t even have the old style vents anymore!!!

I have a couple of these hi flow kits, and a couple standard flow... The vent actually whistles when using the hi flow kit!!!

I giggle about the "safety cans" You technically cannot sell fuel cans with normal funnel spouts. But there seems to be quite the market for just the funnel spouts to replace on your cans! HA! Money.

As for us, we refuse to use those dopey new cans. I use a shaker syphon whenever filling anyway.

I absolutely hate the new cans!!!

I have a shaker hose also, but usually just fill the snowmobile from the can with the hi flow spout. The ONLY can I have a “safety” spout in is the gas caddy on my snowmobile, and that’s only because I don’t want to vent it.

I haven’t filled the boat from a can, yet.... But I won’t say I never will.

The 2.99 I pay for non ethanol at the gas pump on lake is pretty decent price then... I may know a person or 2.

There is a station around corner from my house though that has non ethanol as well for .10 cheaper. I trailer boat everywhere so just fill up on way home each time.

Our marina doesn't allow you to bring gas cans onto the docks. At a $1 a gallon or more, I would haul 10-15 gallons down each trip if they let me. I love the high flow spouts....used them on the bimini trip...empty in like 60-90 seconds!

Could you just happen to fill after hours, or is there someone always there???

That was my plan when we got a slip for the last part of the year. Just dump 5-10gals in after the dealer is closed for the night. They were over $5/gal, I think it was ~$5.50ish, when the station on the way to the lake had rec fuel at $3.50-$3.99/gal.

Luckily we didn’t need a gas before the season ended.

And next year we aren’t keeping the slip. They raised the price $500, up to $3k.... so instead that $3k/yr is going toward a brand new boat!!! :)

I'll stop whining about the $1,250 I paid for the season (May 1st to Oct 1st)

It’s just crazy!!! A friend is still keeping his tri-toon there next year. Like I mentioned, that can be $3k towards our new boat. Plus, since my wife is getting better towing the boat, we could just meet at the launch when I get out of work. :)

I guess when the economy tanked the price was dropped to about $1500 or so, but has slowly climber up from there since.

New boat all the way.......there's a SCARAB 285 coming out of the SkunkWorks with my name on it the moment It's released!

We don't have fuel on our lake currently. Previous lake the resort charged $6/gallon no matter what it was anywhere else. So we learned to always drop in a couple cans as habit. Now I keep our boat topped, as it is ballast.

How's that GMC Sierra treating you? I will disclose that I'm an immigrant from Britain....so I've never owned a truck. My wife has ordered me to trade in our Acadia for one in the next six months because I've destroyed the interior with all the DIY I've done to our house with drywall, 2x4s, blah blah blah.......always looking for input from people. Because I'm not FROM here, I'm one of the few people who truly has zero loyalty to any particular truck brand....so I'm taking notes. :D

I have been happy with my 3 Chevy Silverado’s. The Chevy and the GMC are twins!!! Same drivetrain, just different exterior styling and interior seat fabrics (last I knew on the seat material).

Had a 2k 1500 ECSB 4x4, over 100k, for about 10yrs.
Next was a ‘10 1500 CCSB 4x4. Had for ~31k and 39 months. Traded due to the travel trailer we had being at the trucks max payload wise. Otherwise we would probably still have it!!!
Current is a ‘13 2500HD CCSB 4x4 6.0 gasser. I think I’m still under 70k, but getting close. Have had it for 5yrs this last Sept. So far so good. And we have a heavier travel trailer, so it earns it's keep!!!

I would highly suggest driving all the trucks you have available from good dealers (for after the sale!!!). See which you like the best and can get for the best value... You really can’t go wrong with any of the trucks.

Do you use the Acadia to tow the 215 ever??? How does it do if so?
