Just pulled this motor apart I got as part of a trade deal. No compression on #2. Ha. This is what happens to the MR1 when you break a rod at high RPM. If you look closely, you'll see broken rods, rings, part of the crank case, valves, and a nicely hammered piston turd.

What's amazing is the assembly still rotates smoothly.

Look at those 5 valve heads - very exotic!

OUCH !!!

Yamaha practically invented the 5 valve DOHC going back to the Genesis engines. My WR250F also had them as they are very efficient and allow for high revving.

Its just a flesh wound......

10K rpm when something goes out of sync kiss it good by

That'll buff right out

We all think of the mr1 ad an old engine but it is really a very advanced engine.
Hell yeah! Even the non ho is 140hp/L. That would be equivalent to my 4.6L 2v mustang having 644hp. I only have about 450 with 10lb of boost! It's beautiful when cleaned up.

The 350 in our 1975 c3 pushed 28 hp/ liter from the factory. 160/ liter is amazing. 912 hp if the smallblock Chevy was as efficient as the Yamaha mill.
