My boat is giving me headache

@RyanTexas, @Babin Farms After running a few minutes on the hose, water should start streaming out of the big hole, upper-right, right above the jet. That hole, as well as the rear pilot, are downstream of the thermostat. I would start by checking the thermostat.

Edit: @RyanTexas My mistake: your boat does not have a rear pilot, only a pilot for high rpm operation. This pilot will never stream water a low rpm. As @zipper indicated surprise that you were able to run on hose at 6k for 15min. Definite NoNo!

I cleaned out the plugs the first thing.
I just meant it seems like your clean out plug is not seated or locked in place. If you’re turning 4000 rpm your boat should be pulling very hard and trying to move. That part makes no sense.
That might also cause the water pressure to be too low after the jet pump for it to push water up through your cooling system grate.

I just swapped the thermostat from with the other engine and it is still happening.

You are right about making no sense. My title said it all. I checked the plugs and they both came off by:
My stupid mistake, or first time plugging it, and had no idea how deep it should went. I was able to replug the one on starboard, but it was like fighting with the press-to-lock. The port plug is still very hard to press and I am going to use a jack to squeeze it, for this long weekend. Once O came back, I will replace both plugs.

I will keep you guys up to date.

Thank you very much.

Ryan

Ok, so have a look at https://jetboaters.net/threads/2008-sx230ho-cooling.22340/. I think where you are describing is the normal exit for the cooling water. So if you are getting hot water out of there, that is as it should be (and steam there would be ok).

The temp light coming on with the hose means we can't narrow the problem as previously suggested. But I am still thinking a hole somewhere if you have air coming out of the cooling system anywhere, basically (pissers or out the back).

It was the steam that came off tge hot water draining from a big hole above the jet drive.

@RyanTexas If your plugs are hard to pull out or push in, spray them with silicone spray or some other spray lube.

Hi all,
I personally thank everyone here for giving ideas and guiding me to fix my headache. It has paid off and I am so happy to cruise the boat on the lake today. The main issue was the plugs did not properly secured, dumb me. There are a few minor things that need to be corrected but that would be for another discussion.

Happy to join this group and wish you all having a great holiday weekend.

You need to buy some cobra locks as insurance your plugs are in, secure and won't blow

That’s great, glad you can get out on the water this weekend!

Great result! Congratulations.

Sounds like you may need a plug rebuild, too (in addition to the locks @Scottintexas mentioned). But, as you said, that can be another day. Happy boating!
