Sorry for your loss Julian. Prayers for you and the family.

Condolences and sympathies… losing ones father is a tough thing.

I am very sad to report that David Norval Mitchell passed away on January 25th at 6:25pm at the age of 88, at peace and surrounded by his family.

Please join us when we celebrate Dad’s life with a toast at Dad’s favorite table on Friday evening January 28th at 6pm at O’Toole’s Irish Pub (1215 West Brandon Blvd, Brandon FL). David was a great father, grandfather, husband, singer, scholar and fountain of often obscure and esoteric knowledge.

Dad would prefer donations to the Alzheimer’s Association in lieu of flowers.

@Julian - so sorry to hear that. Never met your dad, he sounds like a super cool gentleman.

Condolences, Julian. You clearly had a lot of great memories with him, and those are the things that help, looking back, as you go through this.

The very final part of this is not being able to ask him any more questions. I know this is kind of obvious but until they're gone it doesn't really sink in.

For example on a recent trip to visit him I talked to him about his return from India to England in 1943. He was a child and the ship he was on travelled in a convoy. It was the 1st convoy to sail through the mediterranean late in World War II. He was aboard the HMS Strathmore, that at the time was considered one of the faster cruise ships and as a result they were less concerned about German U boats but there was still clearly a worry. The convoy was escorted by 2 British cruiser class worships.
Just a completely different childhood than most of us ever dreamt of.

It's stories like this that we will all miss from our parents. Talk to them while you can.

I’ve been told that prayer is the best gift one can offer for someone who just passed away as well as for their family. So, sending my gift now. We’re all thinking of you, Julian.
