Need a list of water destinations

Highest pay in country is NorCal Bay Area. All the way to Sac. Good lakes around as well.
We left the Bay Area in 1996 when we had our second child. On top of the highest pay there is also the extremely high cost of living. I think of all potential locations the only one off the list is California. No offense intended!

Also the highest cost of living in the country by a long shot....
  1. San Francisco. $123,268 to live comfortably. ...
  2. New York. $99,667 to live comfortably. ...
  3. San Jose. $99,431 to live comfortably. ...
  4. Oakland. $95,611 to live comfortably. ...
  5. Washington, D.C. $90,811 to live comfortably.

Sadly financially we are going the other direction. We put a offer in on a house in gunnison (crested butte) last weekend. More expensive and one of the coldest places in the us. What am I thinking!!! I retire in 3 years at 50.

Lol that’s what I was thinking. $500k for a 1 bedroom shack in CA. I’m telling ya, move to the southeast for cheaper cost of living. My house would be several million $ in CA, but a fraction of that here in GA. Also, with the right degree/job you can make comparable salaries to what you would make in places like NY or CA.

So I have an update for you all.

The reason we were looking at travel nursing was primarily to see if we would enjoy living in Hawaii. The added benefit was that it allowed us to try out other areas of the country.

As we researched and thought about what we wanted, we kept coming back to our original reason. So, he have decided to not go the travel nurse route and instead we are just going to move to Hawaii.

My wife starts her new job at the Kona Community Hospital in Kona on the Big Island on August 8th. I've purchased an aluminum trailer and plan to take the boat with us. I will follow my wife over as soon as we get the house sold.

I've wanted to move to Hawaii for 15 years. We love the Kona area and @rkim808 convinced me to take the boat!

With our youngest child in her last year of High School we are starting to make plans for a potential move. Our current plan is for my wife to switch to a Travel Nurse position that allows her to choose where she works for 13 week increments. So, we will spend 13 week increments checking out different areas of the country.

Wish list includes:
Warmer weather and water than the Pacific Northwest
Good boating destination

That's about it! I'd like to start putting a list together and doing some research so that we will be ready to go come fallish!

Suggestions?

Anywhere in Michigan May thru Septemberish

Jacksonville Florida has all the water I could ask for with a great inshore fishery, the St Johns river and St marys.
Driving distance to the west coast. for clam season. Sand bars and restaurants with boat docks for me its a boating paradise.

Wow! Looking forward to hear about your boating adventures in the land of Rueben @rkim808 !

Congrats. That's a significant move.

Had a previous coworker that lived out there for a few years. Said he'll be retiring there when the time comes.

I am excited for you both! We are just shy of being empty nesters ourselves and being in healthcare field. This August the nest will be empty. Please take lots of pics/ videos of your experiences in Hawaii.

Aloha @Scuba_ref so glad and happy for u, 15yrs and now u making it a reality??. The Big Island of Hawaii especially Kona will be unreal to have ur Yammy with u. The water there is so nice for boating most of the year. Between Manta Ray night diving and Lava flows to Ocean, and of coarse the World Class Deep Sea fishing or any type fishing. I will be coming to visit for sure lol?. Life will be great, u have my number let me know if u need help with anything.??
