Friend of mine has asked my advice on a pair of 2006 Seadoo jet skis. I told him I only had basic info, would go with him to look them over but didn't have in depth knowledge. Thought I'd put this out to the pros on this board.
Here is the 411:
2-2006 Seadoo RTX 3-seaters w reverse. 215 HP supercharged
Comes with double galvanized trailer
100 hrs on each machine. Both superchargers were just rebuilt. Seller has receipts for work done.

These were used in fresh water lakes in NH. Their new home will be in salt water.

I'd like to know if there are any particular problems with this model/year. I'm not a big fan of superchargers but as stated they were just rebuilt.

Asking price is $11,500 for both machines and the galvanized, double trailer. Any advice on problem areas or what to look for would be greatly appreciated.

I have an 07 rxp 215 o have been trying to sell. 11.5k is HUGE money for them. For reference, ine has 85 hours and i'm selling it for 3500$.

Outside of that, the lcd screens go out and are a pain to get fixed. Theyre like 500 bucks then need to be prgrammed THEN you have to pair them to the ski. They require premium, and nurn gas like CRAZY. 18 gallons in a morning is very easy to do. Theyre pretty reliable overall, very fast, and can be upgraded for 250hp easily.

Personally, i think 7500 would be a decent price for the 2. I would probably get an FX HO over an RXT personally.

11500 is very high in my opinion, those are 13 year old skis. That price would be more in line with 5 to 7 year old skis in great condition

Yeah 11,500 is to much for skis that age I bought a brand new 2018 gti 130 se for think 8k or 8500 last year I would buy a new pair of those before buying older sea doo supercharged skis.the real value on those with a double trailer is likely closer to 8k

I totally agree on the price being very high. I think the fact that both just had their superchargers rebuilt adds some value in addition to a tandem trailer but I still see them as older machines that will need more attention than my friend is willing to put up with. That usually means my friend's friend (me) will be swinging a wrench on his skis.

Thanks for the great feedback guys. I have forwarded your inputs to my friend. Anymore intel is appreciated.

They used the old washers in their supercharged machines up until 2008. The ceramic washers caused many issues and its not if they would fail its just a matter of when. I had an 08 sea doo rxt-x which was fine and is still running to this day with about 200 hours. I sold to a friend who still uses it. Those superchargers need to be done like every 75 to 100 hours. Id stay away and go for an 08 or newer for those prices. Seem awfully high I sold mine rxtx for 4500 with 80 hours.

The rebuilds now switch the ceramic washers out for metal ones.

I’m gonna go against the grain here and say the price is a bit high but not terrible. I sold my mint 2008 with 43 hours on it three years ago for $6750. I would say if they are in very good shape and well taken care of, I don’t think $4500-5000 each is unreasonable. In my area there are usually ones beat to hell or in mint condition. Mint obviously is few and far between but also goes for a premium.

All that being said, my next one will be a Yamaha. Even though they supposedly switched the washer design in 2007 or 2008 to slightly better than the original ceramic design, I was always worried about it. It looked great, it was fast, ran great without any issues and I loved it, but I feel that Yamaha is more reliable based on what I see here and the number of high hour Waverunners out there. Most rental companies seem to have Waverunners too, so there is more evidence.

I’ve been out of the loop for a bit so maybe the newer SeaDoos are much better, but it’s unlikely that I’d buy anything with a blown Bombardier/Rotax engine in it.

Per the collective's advice my friend has decided not to buy this pair of skis. He is still looking for a pair and thinks it will likely be a pair of Yamahas. Thanks for everybody's input. You likely saved him lots of money and me lots of labor & busted knuckles.
