I have a 2004 165 utopia boat.
Starts up on land , but the minute I put it in the water, motor starts up and sputters out
In 10 sec. My mechanic said there are no codes he could read. He has no idea what is happening. Please help if you can
Thanks in advance.

Fuel filter? Most of those I have heard of generally on engines are either timing or fuel problems. And I have heard of fuel filters clogging on Mercury's. It may be under load it is pulling more fuel and just not enough will get by the filter.

What do the plugs look like?

Thank you for your info. Will check it out.

Would this give a engine code if fuel pressure was low?

That is Sea Doo's unicorn boat.
Did you find a Mercury mechanic?

Not sure if forum has someone experienced more than this person on this site.
I've linked all his threads on your motor and all the problems they suffer from

SeaDoo Forum is a great resource for Merc powered SeaDoo's. I was a regular visitor there and contributor when I owned one.

Big deal with those engines were the head temp sensors. But this is probably not your issue if it runs on the trailer.

Good luck,

That one I don't know. I don't think that they typically put a sensor on the fuel line after the intake. There would just about need to be a pressure sensor there in order for it to throw a code that you didn't have the right pressure there, I would think.
