If timing chain is broken, would the shaft that turns the impeller turn? When I held the hatch switch down and had someone turn the key I could see the shaft turning !
Yes. The pump shaft would still turn if the timing chain was broken.

Yes. That's driven by the crank, not the cams. (and the starter turns the crank).

That's not good, was hoping for better news. Will do compression test tomorrow and let ya all know ?

Post up pics of the old plugs also when you pull them so we can see also. Any luck finding a YDS?

Ok I will! YDS I haven't thought about it ...but at this point I think I will..

Like everyone else already menrioned, if there's no compression, then nothing inside is moving and it would be the timing chain. I hope not. It's sad everytime I hear of it:arghh:

What kind of repair bill ammo looking at?

@Robert_o. Three questions: 1) do you have the YES warranty? 2) when you were towed in, how fast were they towing you? and 3) What position was the throttle lever in? I'm wondering if there isn't a compound problem here.

No YES, about 2-3 mph and I don't remember what the position on throttle was

I think I'm screwed..

Two, er, one thing at a time. Test first. You would be surprised how often you are not screwed when you thought you were.

How did you test if engine wouldn't crank? The motor won't turn over unless it is neutral. I'm confused by why you are at WOT?

@Robert_o. To do the test leave the throttle in neutral. With guage screwed into spark plug hole crank engine for about 3 seconds. Record the reading. Do this for each cylinder.

If your timing chain is broken you will see compression on cylinders where the intake & exhaust valves remained closed and little to no compression where valves were partially or fully open.

Also, when an engine breaks a timing chain it tends to spin over faster than usual due to less compression from open valves and not having to turn over the top end. Not sure about these particular engines bit it could have possibly jumped time.

@Robert_o - just to verify, have you looked under your boat to make sure that you didn't suck anything up into the grate/around the propeller shaft?

Your boat seems pretty new for a broken timing chain.

Reminds me what my high school mechanic teacher said - "Always remember to KISS- Keep It Simple Stupid"
Don't hear hoofs and assume zebras.

Keep us updated. (Fingers crossed for you)

@Robert_o. I would still consider bringing it to a good Yamaha dealer. There may be something Yamaha will do if this is a known issue.
