Well my wife got called to scuba instruction duty today so instead of going out alone I decided to install a few more items I the boat.

I've had the NOCO GENIUS charger inlet port since last season and was to afraid to cut a hole in the boat. Now that I completed a concave 8.875 inch hole for the JL sub, this 2" hole should be cake.

It was.

I used a Lenox bi-metal hole saw for this. I double taped the hull then ran the drill in reverse. About a minute later, a round hole!

Then I test fitted the inlet, drilled pilot holes for the screws, counter sunk the pilot holes for stress relief, removed the tape, installed the inlet, screwed it down and... Done.

Dang that is a huge hole! I'm going to have nightmares about that for weeks!!! However, nice install very clean I'm impressed.

Looks great! Takes a lot of balls to drill into the boat though doesn't it? I have to stainless rod holders I would like to put in the gunnels but just cant pull the trigger to drill the holes just yet! Nice work.

Agreed. I actually gasped when I saw the first pic of the hole. (My boat is black too...) My wife heard me, came over and said "What's wrong? Did you - OH MY GOD!"

I actually need to pop another hole in mine: I'm adding a manual bilge pump. It's a project that's been in the box for a few years but it's about time to make it happen. (So I say every spring.)

Holy crap that is clean and nice; however, @steined you are getting WAY to comfortable putting holes in your boat!!! Whats next??? If your feeling squrely you could always add additional cup holders!

Nice Job! I plan on doing this installation soon. Thanks for the info and motivation.

I really like the new fuel tank vent. I may have to swap mine out for that.

I was going to ask if you put some sealant around the insert, but I looked at the pic of the box and saw it has a rubber seal on it, did you put silicone on the screws or anything??? Very nice install!!! Looks factory..

Thanks for pointing that out. The gasket around my vent is failing so I'll have to look at the new version.

Just got some life caulk so I'll probably put some of it on the threads and screw them in with that, but I don't think it is necessary.

Nice work Steined. Would you agree that putting holes in the boat gets easier every time you do it?

I like the flip top gas cap as well. Much better design than the cap with a chain.

Nice install....my wife makes jokes when I'm out working on the boat. If someone asks if I'm home, she'll say "Yes, he is outside drilling holes in the boat!"

That gas cap is sweet! I want one!!!! Anyone know the part #, if there is an aftermarket option and if it is a standard hose connection??

There was discussion on switching out the gas caps to this newer kind on the other board. I will try to find it. The outcome was that it was not just a simple swap. You had to remove the whole assembly and hose going to the tank to swap. Not an issue just not an easy swap.

Follow up three months later. I bought the flip gas cap and noticed the new tube/cap has lesser scree holes. Set the project aside but having at it now. I think you have to get inside the fiberglass behind the seat cushion to remove the old gas tube? Maybe a jubilee clip holding on the gas tube? Anyone done this upgrade? Hoping the new assy covers all the extra screw holes on the old style.

Yeah I agree it gets easier. I didn't want to install this after I saw it needed a 2" hole last year. But after the 8.875 inch subwoofer hole, this was easy! About to go put some holes in for vhf and gps/chart plotter actually!

+1. Just take your time. My first time drilling a hole I was so nervous that I forgot to tighten the drill bit in the center of the hole saw and it danced across the fiberglass.

Remember 2 things ..............
1) Tape off the area with Blue Painters tape. Thoroughly, first !

More importantly ............

2) Run the drill in REVERSE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DO not - ABSOLUTELY - Do NOT - run the drill in "forward !"

I like it, and their logo almost looks like a Yamaha tuning fork logo at first glance. Kinda blends right in.

I did want to offer one more pointer on this after the fact.

There is a drain hole at the BOTTOM of the plug. Make sure to orient the unit such that it will be effective. I've since rotated the unit but it isn't at bottom dead center, more like 4-5 o'clock. Unfortunately I was just trying to make the screw holes symmetric to MY liking without taking that into consideration. It's fine, but just a point of detail to look out for.

Thanks!

Looks really nice. I am going to ask a dumb question...why drill in reverse? Is it due to the fibers in the fiberglass?
