I just posted in the other Yamaha boaters forum and wanted to ask here as well in case there is someone here vs there who has a good answer…

I had the plug out of the center area storage on the SX190 - and it had some water left over after a few hours out… how normal is it to have water in this area ? Should I leave the plug in and not worry about the water? Or do I need to check the scupper and exhaust areas to see if theres a leak ? Ive heard conflicting info… one that its ok for water to be in the area and not a big deal.. and other is the scupper and the exhaust might have leaks and you need to check…

What is the expert guide here?

Thanks!

Heres a link to a leak finding thread… https://jetboaters.net/threads/the-ultimate-leak-finding-thread-your-opinions-are-needed.6684/

Go to the faq section for more leaking finding threads…especially the anchor locker drain thread.

I always have water in my “ski locker” between the port and starboard captains chairs. Seems to be a common thing in these models.

Keep the water from coming in at the other areas that are the real problem, and the ski locker pond will dry up too.

I had a mosquito colony there. It was super annoying. Still in the process of figuring out how to minimize this.

I am assuming if you/we have water in the ski locker, we also have water in the gas tank area. Its just a pain to pull the panel and check.

I have a 2020 195S and I literally don't get a drop of water in my boat and never have, except for when my buddy stuffed the bow once! The clean out port fills with water but that is it. So to say having water inside is common on this model I would have to disagree. I remove my drain plugs at the ramp on an angle and nothing ever comes out. Now, mine is a pre-covid boat so I don't know if assemble quality has anything to do with it. Just took mine to the car wash and gave it the business with all the hatches and seat installed and water just came out the scupper the way it is supposed to as well, nothing out the plugs. I'm just happy my boat is this way, I'm definitely the type who likes my water outside my boat!

Good luck to you finding the source. Hopefully my experience shows you that it can be bone dry.

Maybe I am getting rain inside the boat through the cover and its running down into the ski locker as I usually have no more that a 1/8 cup of water. It looks like the drain may have a hose as the water is a VERY slow drain and could be kinked? I did fill the ski locker up with water last week after we used the boat to flush any saltwater out of the bilge and clean the bilge pump. Its nice seeing the salt water come out of the bilge, then having clean city water come out afterwards.

Thank you all for the replies… Im learning ! Will do some investigation and let you know my result later too…

I had this issue back in the beginning with my SX190 (2017) and was really concerned so I started the investigation and because I am 100% salt water I tasted the water in the locker and found that it wash fresh which meant it was from my wash downs which led me to find the drain hole in the anchor locker which drains directly into the ski locker. Wash that area or put back a wet anchor and line and you will get the run off. That solved, the only other way for water to enter the ski locker barring any deck flooding and overflow past the ski locker hatch seals is from the ski locker drain plug which if left out will permit bilge water (salt or fresh) from rising up into the ski locker.

Another thing I found early on was a bulk head leak from the ski locker into the gas locker which also has a drain plug. I found it by flooding the ski locker with clean water and with the gas locker hatch off I watched water rise. Actually I could see the small stream of water squeezing past the bulkhead on the wall. That leak was resolved easily with a sealant in the bulk head joint.

Good Luck with the investigation.

I was thinking to take a GoPro and shove it into the interior areas of the boat and see if I can spot leaks while out on the water… :) Ill let you all know what i see. Thank you all kindly for the input and guidance. Very nice community here.

As Martin Shirt said in Captain Ron, it’s a boat, meant to get wet. ?

I had the same problem in my 2021 sx190. I resealed and added more screws to the large panel where the clean out port is located and no more water in the ski locker.

I always have water in my 21 195S, hope to resolve it this off season.

Jet boat pilot makes a riser for tge access poet that helps too

That's the first thing I did in trying to resolve my problem. Didn't resolve my issue with water on the ski locker.

I just pulled the complete large panel. Cleaned all the silicone off(the factory did a shit job).next i added doubled the number of mounting screws ,fresh silicon. I also resealed the small drain in the panel. I have not had any water in the locker since

The large panel? Can you explain a bit more ? Sorry… Im a newbie.. is there a single panel that comes off the boat? Or do you mean the back panel where the clean out ports are ?

In the center of the cockpit (between the captains chair and the engine doghouse) under your snap in carpet, there is a large hatch screwed in. If you remove that hatch that gives you access to the fuel tank and bilge. Not much access, but access.
