ONAGOFly - Nano Smart Drone

@robert843 Lily and ONAGOFly are marketed as self piloting. ONAGOFly has obstacle avoidance and is light enough to avoid licensing requirements. The negative is that it is too small to work well in wind.

In theory you simply throw them in the air and let them follow you around. When you are ready to land you press a button and it comes back to you. I will review ours when it arrives and let you know if it lives up to the claims.

I do believe that your DJI Phantom is a more capable video platform. Especially since you can add stabilization devices and use different cameras and lenses. For semi professional usage I would want a Phantom for professional usage I would want one of the higher end DJI quad copters. But for occasional usage I believe the self piloting features of the Lily and ONAGOFly are more appropriate.

My DJI also has the same auto flying features (follow me mode) (way points mode) (point of interest mode) (auto take off) (auto land) (course lock) (home lock mode) but correctly does have to be registered with the FAA. I would never use one of the smaller ones over water with a boat in motion though as they will likely only be able to keep up a an idle speed and will surely be out of there 60-90 ft range quickly they are ideal for short range land shots. So it really all depends what you are looking to do with it. I do agree a $250 unit is a whole lot more appealing then a $500 unit as I really wont use it much either as I have no professional use for it. I do agree buying a smaller cheaper unit can save you headaches and heart break later with a bigger unit to adjust to any learning curve. I would just tell anyone I wouldn't be afraid to start with a DJI 3 Phantom Standard. Its kind of like the first boat conversation most people want to look at a 190 to start and we always tell them go ahead and buy your second boat first. Same theory applies I have spent more on smaller less capable units over the past few years then the DJI costs now. Now that they are more reasonable why not buy your second or third unit first unit first. The biggest advantage to those other units is size I will admit the box and everything you carry with you to use the DJI is a lot more cumbersome then a little drone and smart phone.

Here is some footage of them testing the Onagofly

FYI - there is a secret sale ongoing - $179 for the drone until the campaign ends.

My life story - bought too soon lol

We have not received our ONAGOFly. Has anyone had better luck?

I just ordered the blade chroma...will be getting it Wednesday. I will report how it is. It's got a cool wizard remote for the follow me mode. It's about the size of a tv remote and comes with a waterproof sleeve. Kind of like the air dog but with a more traditional drone. Drone..controller..three batteries and backpack for $879. Was originally about $1300.

@Bruce , are you at least getting status messages from onago? I waited 15 months for an Airdog before canceling my order but I received status notices to check their site for updates at least once a month. lily sends direct status messages out two or more times a month but I think they are just setting the expectation that it will not be released before this summer as first predicted when the product was announced and they were looking for initial investors/customers.

@bobbie , I'm looking forward to reading about your thoughts on the new Yuncee quad copter / drone, especially the advanced autopilot features like follow me. Yuncees have been available for several years now but I still don't know anybody that owns one. The advanced auto pilot features in the dji phantoms still need some refinement in my opinion, they don't get as close to the subject being filmed as I would like anyway.

I believe the last update I received was in February stating that all of the preorders would ship in March and April.

Their Facebook and Twitter pages suggest that a version with upgraded hardware is shipping now.

Airdog kept teasing its customers by stating that beta test units were being shipped but those only went out to a select few people, like those sponsored by redbull.

ONAGOFly sent out enough units to get quite a few bad reviews. At least one person enabled follow me mode and had it engage attack mode.

The reviews are pretty negative but I am still hopeful that they will work the bugs out in the app and that the second generation unit that I receive will be better than the first.

@Ronnie Amazon shows air dog getting released on May 16. Is that optimistic??

There's quite a few YouTube videos on the Onagofly. Most looked negative. Maybe canceling the order is wise?

I see lots of comments from people who have tried to cancel. I knew the risk when ordering.

Most of the reviews look pretty bad but people are easy to post negative stuff over positive. Hopefully they get it fixed before you get yours. I love the attack mode comment I hope that guy made a video of that!

I think airdog will release on the 15th of this month. A full 6 months late but I also think it's already obsolete in that there is no integrated camera and no new or different features to distinguish it from the lily (water proof and it floats) or the phantom 4 ( forward and ground avoidance and similar advanced flight / auto pilot/ drone modes) plus it costs 3 times as much as the lily and a little more than the phantom as well.

On a related note I saw a guy flying a solo in a park today. I tried to chat with him when he was done but it turns out he is deaf (or at least that is how he played it). The solo looked stable and the gimbal had a large range of motion but I think the gimbal is sold separately for $400 on top of the $900 base quad copter.

Good luck with the onago, dji often addressees bugs via firmware updates so hopefully onago will do the same.

Nothing for my order! I should listen to mom -
If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is

So I just got this email - geez

We greatly appreciate your patience.

We’re here, we’re listening, and we value every one of you. Without your support, there is no possible way we would’ve been able to experience the success we have.

Before the campaign began, our team had manufacturers committed to production for all of ONAGOfly’s accessories (VR, fuel sticks etc). However, there was no possible way we could’ve prepared for the unprecedentedly high sales volume we received; this amazing result drastically overwhelmed our manufacturers.

We worked very hard to communicate with our manufacturers to get accessory production back on track with a new shipping timeline reflecting the massive number of orders we received. We, unfortunately, were unable to prevent the shipping delays you’re currently seeing. As a result of this, and our desire to keep our efforts as transparent as possible, our team has been talking with manufacturers and gathering the most accurate data before we announced another official and expected shipping date. We’re sincerely sorry for any inconveniences this may have caused you.

At this time, and according to our manufacturers, all orders placed before May 1st will be shipped out no later than June. These shipping delays are primarily affecting backers whose pre-orders included ONAGOfly accessories.

Additionally, we plan to put the order tracking system online this week so you will be able to better monitor your delivery.

We’re working to bring you your ONAGOfly as quickly as possible, and were incredible grateful for your patience and support.

Regards,
