View attachment 9001 Thanks Bilmon & Ronnie. I purchased a 6 tine inlet screen from boatingstoreus.com. Best price at $161.95. I think the original was a hydro"suck"... check what it looked like when I replaced it!
You are welcome. Looks like you had three Broken tines on your hydro surge grate. I had one and it ended up between the impeller and stator (stationary fins behind the impeller that are angled in the opposite direction if the impeller fins). You may want to see if the broken tines are still stuck in the somewhere in the system, if so take them out and you just may run faster or smoother.

I agree, Bilmons boat is very nice looking.

Got very lucky to lose 3 tines and not damage the pump! Nice job on the rope ;)

Harmonic vibration cause many of the early HydroSurge failures. Merc redesigned the tine profile and to my knowledge, they are holding up fairly well.

I switched to the stainless grate and developed hair line cracks in two different grates, never hit anything and figured it was vibration or just a bad batch of grates, maybe both. third grate has been on for years, like it much better I run in a lot of very shallow water and nothing gets past that sucker.

What are the secondary set of tines on the top of that pic for ? Never noticwed them on mine. But then again , I have only had to clear weeds in the water so far. Haven't needed to look that closely yet.

If I understand your question, the "secondary tines" is the spring (spring steel) that holds the hinged portion closed.

Ahhhh.....gotcha. I thought they were just screwed in .
