Polk PA4A upgrade to Polk UM2?

I read elsewhere that the Connext doesn't need to be connected to the stereo and they ran their own controls and ignored the Connext screen. Try disconnecting the Jensen cable going to the Connext and see if stops throwing alarms?
You certainly can do that, but I think it will just constantly alarm about stereo comm errors. Or they left the factory head unit in there but just didn't use it.

I had the cable disconnected right at the head unit and it was still throwing comm errors

I'm pretty sure they just disconnected it from the Connext and no alarms.

Which "head unit"? The black box is the actual radio, the "head unit" in the dash is just a remote right?

I don't have anything in the dash. It's just the "head unit" which is under the helm - the big black box and the remote at the stern swim platform.

I have a 2016 242X and I was able to replace the original PA4A head unit with broken screen with a UMC1 and it worked fine. Swapping it out takes a lot of dexterity and skinny arms to reach the bracket screws from the cupholder hole. And unless you like the feeling of fiberglass in your skin (like me, apparently) I would suggest wearing long sleeves.

No changes were required to the tuner or Connext system at all for me. I got the new UMC1 on ebay for just shy of $400.

Did anyone ever confirm if the PRC200BC will work as a replacement remote for the PA4A commander?

Where did you find one? Seems the UMC1 has been killed off as well??

I added in 2 extra remotes the MARC200 that are similar PRC200BC . I was able to do some basic controls but but I think the PA4A commander has controls for blue tooth embedded in the chip set. Putting that part in an area that gets submerged was some poor engineering

About the only thing I use my transom remote for is volume control and to skip songs. If those can do those 2 functions, that's good enough for me! Was the MARC200 plug n play after removing the commander?

I think it does a few other things but that's mainly what I use it for. My commander failed while it was under warranty so they sent an entire new system I took the remote and hooked it up in the garage and had the ability to use the volume to skip forward and back. you just need a y connector or you can plug it into the commander connection . I relocated my commander and covered it with a table bracket and have the second remote in the bow.

After some exploratory surgery last night, I was able to get the PA4A commander unplugged. Hopefully that fixes my issue with the volume going down by itself.

However, while I had the commander out, I measured and the existing hole is a good bit too big for the MARC 200. Back to the drawing board...

I used a table pole bracket to cover the hole it took some creativity to create a solid back for it but it works and looks great.

I saw that in your previous post and it looks great and I'm sure it stays much drier up on the next level. But, on the 212, I don't have a good flat spot for it in that same area.

Is it possible to replace the stereo with a non Polk unit and still have it communicate with the Connext system? Does it only have to be NEMA compliant to communicate with Connext ?
