Practical Suggestions for Yamaha

@Britboater pm me...i can give you some hints. :p (kidding...please don't pm me.!)

I think the graphics department need to be woken up, non tower models are very bland IMO. We had three colour choices before, but with introducing new models, which is good, there seems to be a reduction in choice.

I was pretty much set on buying a 212x this year, and was planning on ballast upgrades and additions... I was hoping they would have added the connext but can live without that.. I'm assuming they are planning on redesigning the 212 next year, but they could have at least added the forward swept tower this year. I don't mind the old one, but the entire boating industry has moved to the arch tower, and makes the boat look behind the times.. That might be a deal breaker... I don't like the color options on the SS to buy one of those and add an aftermarket tower.

It seems like Yamaha did a pretty good job checking off improvements we requested...
  • Fix the throttles.
  • Higher quality interior finishes.
  • Add factory options for improving the wake.
  • "Sportier looking" colors and graphics.
  • Dedicated 24' wake boat.
  • Factory sound deadening.
And all the little things like the anchor light on the tower, additional aft storage, hinged seats, blah, blah, blah...

Granted, there were some strikeouts like the new bimini, but it seems like the only things we're really looking for is an additional boat in the 28' range and integrated GPS/chart plotter options.

I really don't want to see Yamaha offer a million different setup options. If you want to have someone else do your mods, there's people out there. But, the #1 thing I want is for Yamaha to remember the loyal market that got them here. We bought our boats for their versatility, functionality, safety, low cost of ownership, and sport boat roots. (If you don't love a spin move every once and a while, there's a pontoon boat out there waiting for you.) In the end, I would like to see Yamaha continue to offer innovation without alienating those in the <$50k market.

Ok, I'll get off my soapbox now.

1. On 2015 24' flush ports are to low and the cushions are in the way. Bring them up slightly, 2" is ideal.
2. On 2015 24' the bimini top post holes in the deluxe covers let water in. Add a Velcro strap and flap to cover them.
3. On all trailers, change the bow roller on the trailer
4. Add anchor cleat

Nice call on number 1. What were they thinking placing the flush ports so low?

My vote is for a new 20' twin engine, single axle trailer, mid-entry level boat. $35K for a brand new LS2000 with today's 2-stroke technology or comparable 4-stroke??? Jet boats have an advantage on the river and smaller lakes so please pay attention to this target market. Cash cow

1. +1 on the air pump port for tubes
2. Some organized fender plan. Add fender holders or strategically-placed bars that are designed to definitively hold fenders in the common locations (fore, aft, mid, please).
3. For us in the South, a bimini extension. Maybe one that rolls out of the front and/or back like a window shade, meets up with a pole that fits in an indentation at the fore/aft and then is tied down to a cleat with a clip. If that makes any sense...
4. A blank spot in the helm for other crap we want to add (bilge alarms, rocker panels, EQ's, chartplotters, etc.).
5. Stainless sculper on the back.
6. An emergency release between the engine and the shaft, so that we can spin the shaft backward (maybe with a wrench) in order to dislodge ugly things stuck in the impeller.

I really like #6. Really makes sense.

Bring back the AR210 with the TR-1 engines with a rudder (similar to the AR240 so the rudder does not hang below the haul).

Or

Make a 20' with two engines and discontinue the 19' & 21' models.

Biggest thing is not to lose their roots. As another posted mentioned, the low cost, high value proposition is what made them successful, and some companies simple lose sight of what got them where they are and cut their own legs out from under them.

Here in Canada, that equation is multiplied by the now poor dollar, and our insane income and sales taxes. Value for dollar is a must, so I'll skip all the fancy bells and whistles if I can get reliability and performance in its place. I'm curious how the highly electronics loaded boats will fare in 3-5 years with the day and age of disposable electronics here to stay.

3) Like the idea of a hard top bimini however make it a cargo rack as well, with all these watermats and big tubes storing them on it would be really nice while out on the lake.

I really like this idea. Never thought of putting the tube on top of the tower. I assume with bimini top deployed you could place the tube up there while just hanging out. Not sure I would go far (or fast) with it up there though. Not trying to derail this thread, but does anyone do this?

I have done it for short distances at low speed. I would not want to cross rough water with it up there. That could be an expensive and potentially painful mistake.

Any thoughts on Yamaha coming out with a 22' model? I'm thinking as long as they are redesigning the haul this maybe a possibility. AR220, TR-1's, forward swept tower, sound deadening, rudder (similar to the 24's, do not make the rudder hang below the haul), and a larger bimi top that can be up when towing. IF YOU MAKE IT PEOPLE WILL BUY IT!!! Not that I'm in the market for a top of the line boat, but if I'm buying a boat with ballast give me hard tanks, not bags. Bottom line bring back the AR in a 21 or 22 foot. One more thing if the TR-1's are so much smaller how about making some more storage, as a family you can never have enough storage.
