Would still get moldy, just like the front of that sub, grill/lip/rim, wouldn't it?

I would like a "show and tell" with pics of clear stranded speaker wires - turning that ugly green!
I've seen that in my boat . Well, most here use speaker wire... to wire speakers... in a boat. LOL.

Next time pair it with 2+ coats of Marine paint. I've seen boat floors like this hold up to constant soakings.

Wow just two years and that happens when marine ply was used and stained/sealed. You built them well too. I would have thought it to hold up better. Does go to show why using true marine rated stuff like amps, wire, stainless screws, and starboard make sense. May I use this photo in threads to illustrate this point that I make frequently?

Blowing stuff up won’t be an issue if you tune it with an smd tuner or oscilloscope.

Absolutely use it! Tag me even! I was sure marine ply 3/4" thick or whatever stained and sealed was going to work perfect but live and learn!

Real question is why it got so wet.
I wonder if the tower mounts leak it in?
I mean, we do go wave jumping but don't usually get soaked from it.

Yep. That sub box was sitting in the back of the rear storage, correct? Rain water can sneak past a cover, I find that when my boat is not on the lift (in the covered slip) I jack up the bow on top of a cinder block so that the bilge and all compartments can drain. I also leave the seat cushions crack open - for ventilation.

I considered one of those heater thingies but so far didn't really need it. But those can work wonders for keeping things dry(er), I hear.

Yes, rear of the port side seat all the way in the back. Other side wasn't nearly as bad but had it as well.
My boat stays outside except for winter.
I crank the front up pretty good to drain when we get home, but perhaps it just got stuck on the box before storage for winter?
My cover this past year was one of those cheap cabelas covers because the factory one tore up around the tower.
I have a guy to build a new cover, but he's well... less than ambitious to come out during bad weather and seems to be super busy for being retired. I had my boat in our heated shop all Saturday but when I called Friday he decided he couldn't come after going to ask his wife, lol. I have seen his work and my FIL has a cover by him and he does good work, but It's TIME!
So, a bad cover, being outside all the time, tower wicking water into the boat etc etc
Hopefully this custom made cover helps a good bit.
Next boat will certainly have a factory tower.

Right, I don’t see any reason for marine plywood for speaker boxes.

Marine plywood is generally higher quality and is supposed to have no voids (not always the case). But there is nothing special about the actual wood they use. In most cases it’s not particularly rot resistant.

Any exterior grade ply will have the same waterproof glue.

So save the money on marine ply and buy some epoxy to coat some ACX instead.

Random thought. 3/4" cutting board. Nylon or whatever it is. May not have the same acoustic qualities but the dimensions can still be exact and the stuff won't rot.
