Wow what a story and I am sorry you guys had to go through this. Just brace yourself for the big disappointment of what the courts will do with this asshat. Based on my experience it won't be much.

Generally speaking I would agree with you. But based upon its the Eastern Shore of MD/VA and he stole a boat. Hes looking at serious time, while he isnt likely to get all of it. He will get more than you would think.

A person convicted of theft of property or services with a value of $100,000 or more is guilty of a felony and is subject to imprisonment for no more than 25 years or a fine not exceeding $25,000 or both; and shall restore the property taken to the owner or pay the owner the value of the property or services. (Md. Code Ann. [Crim.] § 7-104(g)(1)(iii).)

Add that to the charges from his dad. He's likely to see 5-10 years in prison for this.

After working in the field for almost 28 years it doesnt matter anymore if it's a felony or misdemeanor, punishable by one year or 25 years. The new emphasis on social justice which equals no justice for victim trumps all. Currently a lot of prosecutors are more defense attorney than prosecutor and of course the wise man in the black robe seems to never disappoint in sentencing decisions. Thank good for insurance because this clown will be paying 20 bucks a month in restitution forever, that is when he pays.

I have a GPS on my boat. The minute it was moved a would get a text message and then I could follow it on a map in real time. It is hard wired to my battery and cost me like 50 bucks with a 15 month fee. Think I got 4 months free on the monitoring if I paid the year up front. Has a motion sensor and real time tracking. Think I have it set to report every 20 seconds if it is on the move. Bought the hard wire kit for I think 20 bucks.

Where did you mount the GPS sensor? Trying to think of somewhere exposed enough for a reliable signal yet not easy for someone just scanning the boat quickly to see.

Interesting info - was your dealer able to find out the number of unregistered boats in the country? With all the hunting people are doing this year, it gives perspective on what odds someone has of getting their hands on a boat.

I haven't crawled around on my boat (e-series), but I'm guessing you just need to short the ignition key and lanyard, turn on the battery switches, and you are good to go. As boats get more expensive, it's probably time to add a chip to the ignition key. This tech has been on cars for decades so it can't be expensive to do.

I mounted it under the seat where the batteries are. It can be mounted anywhere but I chose the place where their is less things in the way of the signal. Works off of cell phone towers so if your phone gets a signal this will. Love this thing. Also use it so when my kid has the boat he is not going where he and his friends are not allowed. Mostly at the sandbar getting plastered with all the other young adults. If the boat is on the move I get an update every 10 seconds showing me on a map exactly where it is. I also have a magnetic case for it so I can put it on my 16 year olds car and set up a geofence i get notified if it leaves the area. Pretty slick for 100 bucks.

There are cheaper ones out there but they r not 300W model. 300W model is the latest model with 3G

Also bought the power adaptor to hard wire it.

Wow, just finished reading this saga. Glad to hear the boat was recovered and hope justice is served to the thief! Of course, while I wouldn't want anyone to have to deal with that piece of trash in MD or anywhere else, there's always the thought that it might try to commit a similar crime in one of my favorite states - Texas - where it likely would be dealt with appropriately and at minimal monetary cost. ?

I wired mine to the battery so you don’t have to charge them every 7 days. Also if they are on battery you cannot set then to report the location every 10 seconds. Always charged 100 % on the battery. My luck and they would run out of charge the day the boat got stolen. 20 bucks for the wiring kit and no taking them and charging them or worse and forgetting to charge them right when you need them.
