Surf board repair

So, long story short, my board hit the back of my boat and got damaged. How do I go about repairing it. Doesn't need to look new, I just don't want to wreck it of water gets in to the core.

Epoxy then paint?

I've used some epoxy for surfboard repairs before. Easy to get (even supermarkets stock it now), quick setting and easy to sand.

That's what I was thinking. I'll probably just cut the chipped pieces hanging off and seal it up.
