Switching my Boat Insurance story....

VERY good point. Great Lakes / Ocean boating WILL increase your rates - make sure you're covered before you go out there or you may get a REAL surprise if you need to file a claim.

It's a non-issue for me. While my opinion obviously differs from many on the board, I don't believe that an open-bow runabout has any business on a body of water the size of Lake Michigan - so I don't need to worry about insuring myself for it.

We boat on Lake Erie just about every week during the boating season. Obviously we don't go crazy far off shore but we are out there. My guess is Lake Mich is generally the same ?? We don't go out in anything 3ft or bigger though. We'll head behind the breakwall and mess around down river.

I'm with Farmers Formost. They do agreed value, cover trailer, and up to 75 miles off shore including Bahama. With 300k in liability, 10k per occupant for medical all under $400 per year.

Don't get me started on taxes!

MY gf is an insurance agent that works with many companies. One thing I learned from her is to always shop around every year for everything you own to save the maximum. People are illogically to loyal to an insurance company when you are only a number to them.
