About to do an oil change on my 2013 SX190. Hooked the hose up to the flush port, started the engine, turned the water on (ball valve at end of attachment). Engine ran for a couple minutes, water out the bucket but not the pisser. Then the engine started smoking. No alarms went off, but it definitely smelled burny. Turned off water, turned off engine.

There’s no leak between the flush port hose connection and the engine. Ran string trimmer line all the way up between the pisser and engine. Good to go.

I read that it won’t always piss from a hose source. But the smoking/burning bothers me. Does the clean out port need to be in? That’s the only thing different from my driveway versus being on the lake (other than being on a hose) but I can’t imagine it’s necessary for it to be installed on a hose. I don’t need that gaping hole to be sealed because I’m not moving.

Thoughts? Gonna change the oil in the meantime. Should be hot enough!

It was coming off/around the engine itself, and smelled burnt. I’ve seen steam around the bucket before. This is my first time changing the oil, but we’ve certainly been out on the boat a lot and never seen or smelled it.

Edit: we bought the boat May last year from a dealer, it actually belonged to a member here. I know it was very well taken care of and was serviced before we bought it. We put MAYBE 40 hours on it last year. The oil looked really good when I took it out a little bit ago. I let it run a couple minutes again after doing the oil/filter/plug change. Not long enough to let it start smoking again though, got me worried. Still never saw water out the pisser but the garden hose was real soft once I flipped the valve, so likely low pressure. Not sure if that makes a difference.
