Toyota Tundra vs Ecoboost F150

not sure what year Ram you were looking at, but payload on my 1500 Laramie Crew Cab is 1469lbs, doesn't really matter to me, but wanted others to know what current year ratings are at

Yeah it was a 13. I think the Laramie longhorn limited with sunroof, heated everything, air suspension, 6.5 ft bed, ram box, etc really adds weight which subtracts from payload.

There were some configurations where it was better, but not with some of the equipment I wanted. In the end i put an offer on a ram and Ford, ended up with the Ford. I think I'd have been happy with either. And I think the real life mileage of the ram would have been better.

hhhhmmm, that's really weird....we have the same truck, mines just a 14....I did realize when I went back to it that I forgot to switch the calculator to 4x4, so i'm actually at 1266lbs....only difference is I didn't get the longhorn, didn't really like the "saddle bags" on the back of the seats

Yeah if you look on the door placard they have the payload for your particular vehicle with options installed. The payloads they publish in pamphlets and online are really for the "base" version of each vehicle trim in that model line. Things like sunroofs are very heavy believe it or not and had more of an impact than I realized. I imagine that air suspension also adds significant weight I ultimately wouldn't have needed. I'm also not sure what the "longhorn + limited" added over the regular longhorn and that could have contributed some. For example maybe the 22 inch wheels weigh more or have less cargo carrying capacity. I didn't look all that carefully, and like I said I was ready to pull the trigger regardless. Frankly, in the full size truck market, you really can't go too wrong these days!!!

Tough for me to by a truck called Longhorn

We'll I searched and it was one sided. Never test drove the tundra since the inside of the F150 made me fall in love. Settled on a certified 2013 FX4 Ruby Red Ecoboost with 40,000 miles. When I called someone was in negotiations for the truck but as soon as they decide not to buy it we drove the 3 hours each way on my birthday to buy it. Missed my birthday dinner but got a new truck! Getting a rhino liner tomorrow and the front windows tinted when there is an opening. image.jpg

Great looking truck but dont you think they could have done a better job on that silly looking exhaust pipe

Yup seems like it was an after thought. There are some aftermarket ones but I want a quiet truck.

Nice! I once bought a Red F-150 on my birthday as well. It was a brand-new 1995!

@Helipilot11 Is it intentional that the truck matches the new boat or just chance? Ever since I bought my red boat, I seem to have a new fondness for red trucks.

You're gonna love that truck. Looks great!

@mrmeaniemeateaterman not intentional but for some reason it keeps happening. I looked at the white (wife's choice), black, and silver. Thought the ruby red looked the nicest plus you don't see many.

@jawsf16 holy crap the thing can tow! I didn't even know it was there. So much nicer than the 4runner. Loved hearing the turbos spool up while pulling it out of the water! Tomorrow we are going to Nashville so we will see how it does on the highway. Pretty impressed.

Very nice @Helipilot11 ! Mine is a 2013 FX4 super cab EcoBoost and I love it. At 40k miles, your truck is broken in, let me know how your mpgs are!

Fairway Ford?

@MOA_Chaser I looked at Fairway but that would of been a 9 hour drive for me. I went down to Chattanooga and would never buy a ford from them again. Didn't have a great experience but they had the truck I wanted.

There's a reason why they call it the mini Powerstroke.

@MOA_Chaser I wish I could tune it.....Came with a 100,000 mile warranty so it will be a while before I can.

I'm with you @Helipilot11. I look forward to putting more miles on my FX2 Eco. Once it is older and remotely close to the power train warranty expiring, I see the f150 competing for my boat mod $! Intake, Intercooler, turbo upgrades, exhaust and tons of programming fun awaits us if we choose. Until then I need to figure out what new tires I put on the same 20" rims as yours.
