Trailer brake pin questions. And trailering questions

If you have a seven way plug on the tow vehicle, the blue wire is already there, so all you have to do is buy a seven way to five way adaptor and you will be good to go. I paid about $25 (cdn) for my so they are very affordable. I just dont understand why people tape pins or nickels in there and drive down the highway. It disables the brakes and could cause problems.

@genwrx this thread answers all the questions. I know you were looking at your pin the other day.

I'm using an adaptor to make my 4 pin into a 5 pin on my Jeep. If I already had a 7 pin on my Jeep, I'd get this to attach between a 7 pin vehicle and a 5 pin trailer (like my trailer):

@Swimmingly  I'm confused... you have a four pin on your Jeep and you're using an adaptor to make a 4 into a 5 - presumably the adaptor has an extra lead that you've tapped into your reverse light circuit wiring? Otherwise a five pin male (trailer) will plug into a 4 pin female (vehicle) without a need for any adaptor - but you still won't have brakes...

That's correct. My word choice might have been confusing...

This made my oem Jeep 4-pin into a Yamaha boat trailer 5-pin:
4 to 5 pin connector (the 5th wire crimps onto the vehicle's back-up/reverse wire)

I considered converting my Jeep into a 7 pin, then using an adaptor to attach to the trailer's 5-pin, but Clemson Tiger convinced me to just use the 5 pin connector in my link. Very simple.
