Turning Radius

And the rest of the keel's purpose in life is to keep the boat going straight right?
 
Guys, the 2015 and beyond 24 footers now have a turning radius comparable to a stern drive, so video 1 is close to accurate. However, using that as a selling point is creative marketitng. I think most to the world wants a smooth continuously predictive turn. Although it was fun to spin in my former SX230, I do not miss spinning. I now have a boat that tracks straight and has great steering response out of the box.

This whole campaign is just haterism. I mean really, the ladder in the center is worse than the ladder off to the side? It's just different... WTH!
 
We like sitting on the sides of our swim deck and people get in and out from the center. It's just preference. I guess it is marketing and whatever suits the end user best. I won't lie my next boat maybe a used chap jet drive in a few years though.
 
Here is some food for thought, Yamaha single engine decks have the boarding ladder to the side because it is safer for people who are climbing up the ladder in the event that some fool starts the engine while they are boarding, it gets them away from being directly above the jet wash from the pumps, " remember all the vagina warning stickers" so all kidding aside I would think it has to do with product liability and passenger safety etc.
 
It is all marketing, but I'm going to be interested to see how my new boat turns...still think there was throttle involved in the chap boat.

Interesting that Yamaha doesn't have a video taken up north in 55 degree water of something getting suck in the jet pump and how each boat handles that problem! LOL They could make a funny one with "shrinkage" and yelling and screaming about how f'ing cold the water is....:winkingthumbsup":D
 
I guess we are all accustom to brand loyalty, however at the end of the day at the beach, the important thing to remember is we all had a great day on the water regardless of the name on the boat, I would use a canoe if that is the only thing I had available.
 
I like the Chap boats, but I hate these types of marketing campaigns. They have a good point that they offer bigger horsepower engines and the tower is easier for one person to fold (especially if it's a hot chick in a bikini), but why even bother talking about dumb stuff like the ladder? I almost never even use the ladder because the swim deck sits almost at water level.

Stick to the positives of your product and quit trying to convince people that other brands are inferior.
 
They are aimed at doing exactly what is happening, creating a discussion and getting people to think about their products getting their name out in front of a new market. So it is working.

The underdog often has to nip at the heels of the front runner to try and claw their way into the market. Yamaha is the #1 selling boat in the 16-25' bowrider class. So it is only natural they'd try and favorably compare themselves to them. But you are right...comparing ladder location? Really? But this turning radius sure makes a compelling story if it is an apples to apples comparison. But as others have said....each boat has advantages and disadvantages. I'm just concerned that the boats weren't driven the same way...
 
Remember the video where one of the other brands test genius said you do not need clean out plugs in jet boats , if you get weeds in the pump just rap the throttles a few times and they clear themselves. That one really missed the mark , I hope they fired him.

That makes a lot of sense.
 
One thing about swim platform ladders that I appreciate about Yamaha is that it is stowed BELOW the swim step. On the Chap, it looks to be under a panel ON TOP of the swim step. There's two reasons I prefer the Yamaha design: 1) that looks awkward to get the ladder out while in the water; and 2) let's just say there was a time I saw someone break two toes and require 6 stitches from one of those above-swim step mounded ladder covers.

OUCH!
 
Someone should make a toung in cheek answer video about how much better the Yamaha ladder is actually designed and implemented.
