Not a lot of us medical people on here. I started out 28 years ago assisting in surgery and E.R. went private for an Orthopaedic surgeon for a few years. He relocated back to Fl but I stayed and went to school for Physical Therapy. As did my wife. I work covering several rehab companies and the wife does home health. When we sell the house we are looking to relocate back to Fl. @primedoc my oldest will graduate PA school the middle of next year. Now that he is in his clinicals he loves it more everyday. I think he is going to go into Emerg. med. He loves the adrenaline rush.
Wow! Lots of cool jobs. I am a store manager for a large retail company. I told myself when I graduated college I would get out of retail. Almost 20 years later I am still in retail. Oh well I guess it pays for my boating addiction!
Flight Dispatcher...22 years with Southwest Airlines.
Retired, 22 years from USAF (Texas Air National Guard). Airfield Manager and Command & Control in an Airlift Control Flight.
There's two sides to that story right??? Getting laid off is a part of the trades. The day you start work on a project you're working yourself out of a job. You can't build it forever. The trades is not for everyone. What my union brothers & sisters did do for me tho is lend me a hand when my mother passed away. Spiritually, emotionally, and financially. I don't know what the economy is like there or his situation but I will ask that my family include my brother electician in our prayers that he my return to work soon with minimum impact to his loved ones under his care.
I work for AT&T's disaster recovery and emergency fueling. Where ever there is a storm or natural disaster, we head right towards it. We provide aid, and assistance to the public, and help get the infrastructure back online. I cover from NY to Key West and Puerto Rico. We have several giant generator storage and maintenance locations. The last major deployment was the when Hurricane Sandy hit the NE.

BTW, thanks to all the active and retired military for your service.
Middle Market Healthcare CEO, built and sold an Inc 500 company before I was 35 (value was in the IT platform we created), retired, recruited back to help fund/run a similar company.
Nice to see so many technology guys on here, and thanks to all of those that are Military, LEO.
Never shared this before, it is old... I made this back in 2003, but we still use it today for public demos. I really need to re-do it with my GoPro.
So... for your eyes only:
And... for public distribution... the most recent Aviation Bureau video produced by my agency this year and published on youtube. It is a bit long, and I HATE watching myself on camera, but here it is:
Microbiologist / Molecular Biology. I handle Biosafety Level 3 organisms, so I'm in my "space suit" for a good part of the day. When Ebola comes to shore I'll already have my wardrobe picked out.
I'd much rather be flying helicopters, seems like a much better way to pick up chicks. By the way my salary doesn't pay for boat; Wife is a podiatrist (foot doctor for the slower members of the group).

@tracerrx You're not missing anything. Research has become extremely cut-throat with more and more people fighting for less and less money (of course I guess that could apply to a lot of things). But the most frustrating part of research is that you never truly answer your questions, you just generate more questions.
