Help! Where do you connect the YDS cable to the engine in sx230?

look in the engine compartment on the starboard wall is a black plastic circle cover, unscrew it and take it off, inside is a jumble of wires and you should see the connectors to disconnect, they should be labeled somewhere starboard and port but if not disconnect one and just bump your engine and see what tach is NOT working,

Found it. I knew some one could help me.
Thanks @Scottintexas

Cheers!

I took a picture of that and was going to ask what it was. Now I know!

@Bruther57 do you have a yds? I work in Grapevine and go thru Roanoke all the time, If you don't have one I be glad to pull the data for you,

Thanks @Scottintexas I ordered one just waiting to get it. This thread also avoided me having to ask where to connect it. :)

Hmmm...I see 5 connectors hanging in there. I see the connectors (gray-ish) at (for lack of a better description) 1 o'clock, 2 o'clock, 4 o'clock, 7 o'clock and a "white" one at 9 o'clock. I also see two un-attached "balls" (like that descriptor?) hanging loose. So which two of these am I going to disconnect and hook up to my software? Yep,finally going to get around to this in the next few weeks. Does the software work with Windows 10? Thanks!

Windows 10 depends on which version of the YDS you bought. my older v1.32 only works with XP.

ignore the white connector and the hanging ones are just blank covers,

Crap. I bought the software 3 years ago......when XP was still a viable option. I guess I will find out...

Isn't there a way to run Windows 7 in a dumbed down way that makes it XP compatable? I swear somebody said that.

EDIT......I figured it out. You'll need to run Win7 in XP comparability mode. Search it and you'll find instructions. Not sure you can do this on Win10 so you might need to find an older Win7 machine.

My YDS adapter came in and it is a 3 wire plug. When I located the connection using the help above (thank you) in my 2005 SX 230 it was a 4 wire connection? I am guessing they sent me the wrong adapter?

Probably not, my guess would be you have the wrong connector,

Can you give us both a close up of the connection and further back so we can see where you're at in the engine compartment

I'm not in the engine compartment, I was attempting to connect to the wires in the starboard hatch that were tagged for the engines.
