Fore! Golf ball removal

The video gives you some visuals but the process can be as easy and just removing the back of the pump and the shaft and impeller come out with it clean, so you may have to struggle with it a little to get it out with the ball wedged in there, but that is how to do it!
 
Got it. So From what I see, I'm not getting the ball out with out pulling the shaft. The majority of the ball is passed the impeller from the clean out port so I believe turning the shaft will only I wedge it and kick the ball away from the clean out port.


Going to bring the trailer up to the lake on Thursday and pull it out of the water. Try to get all this done on the parking lot.

Good video. The only thing they didn't do was put LocTite on the pump bolts. I don't know if the manual calls for it but I wouldn't put my pump back on without it.

I would first try removing from the intake but pulling the intake grate off and than using channel locks or vise grips on the golf ball. You could also cut away at the ball from there with a Dremel. Pulling the pump isn't a big deal just don't lose anything. Some of the parts are not readily available at your local hardware store.
 
I'd pull the pump before I messed with the grates. Removing the grates will require new silicon (heavy duty) and time to dry. Pulling the pump is 4 big bolts, one small one, and the reverse gate connector.

Be sure to look at the pics in my "replacing the reverse cable" thread so you can see how to disconnect the reverse gate connector. If you haven't done it before it is no immediately obvious.
 
Pulling the pump is quick and pretty easy. Just pull it and the golf ball will be free.

@Backwash and I pulled one of his pumps a few weeks ago that had this piece of quartz stuck in it.

You will want a socket set with extensions and a wide pry bar. I used a cordless impact. I did not have a pry bar on hand so a used a hammer being careful of where I hit to free the pump housing. Do not hammer or pry on mating surfaces. Yamaha built pry points into the pump housing. As soon as the pump came free the lump of quartz did as well.

If you can find a high moly grease apply it to the spline before reassembling. I used Honda Moly 60 which is available from Honda dealers and motorcycle shops.

Holy golf ball Batman! Pull the pump, then separate the impeller housing from the back end of the pump. It will take a little coaxing but it will eventually come out. Like @Murf'n'surf said, check the impeller for any bending of the blades, but from here it doesn't look too bad. Keep us up to date with any progress...
 
I know it's probably not important to you now but, where did you pick this up? How shallow? No wake zone? Just curious.

3" deep channel going no wake speed. Indian lake.

Unfortunately our lake is just plain shallow. 3-4 feet in the channels is common and the buzzer goes off every so often at 2.6'. Not much I can do but try to be careful. One thing I did not think that would happen would be sucking up a golf ball!

@buckbuck not sure about the impeller but to my knowledge they are stock. I will snap a couple pictures when I pull them out.
 
This is definitely a first for me to see in a forum. Don't we have a thread around here for stuff we've sucked up?
