It's ski season

@djetok great info, I have snow chains, never used them yet.

So far I've never been stopped and told to put chains on(been going there since 2005). As long as you are in a 4x4 I think they over look it. The tractor trailers they police pretty hardcore about the chains. I've been up there during some pretty hairy conditions. Last year we made a last minute trip and stayed on the Southfork side because I knew the pass would be closed. Sure enough the pass was closed. I had a low air light on the Ford Explorer I was driving which was 4x4. I pulled into a gas station in Southfork and had to dig out the air pump if that gives you any idea of the amount of snow. I did not use chains.IMG_3531.jpegIMG_3533.jpeg

I'm torn this year. My ski buddy (daughter) is too busy and not interested in going this year. I've never done a solo trip, but seriously considering shooting over to Copper Mtn after one of my business trips to Amarillo. Maybe ski 2 -3 days and come back. I've always wanted to try Copper Mtn.

That's a great place as well, tons of places to stay in Dillon or Frisco area. Check liftopia for deals on tickets. Sometimes cheaper then the mtn price.

me either but better safe than sorry. We have been driving to co for over 20 years. Wc is a awesome place. If red ever gets his go ahead for the condos that place will blow up. The locals dont want it all, but could you imagine all the Texas people buying g places there.

Depending on your ski level. If your feeling froggy find a local and ask them to take you on Knife ridge. It will change your life, that could be good and bad. That short expert run gets you into chest deep POW.

Not my video
That is awesome, I'll need to do that! probably not a good idea, been a while since I was doing terrain above Imperial in Breck and even then it was a challenge, lol.

Glad you mentioned that, I finally had a look a those and figured out how to install, should I need them, not very complicated but better to figure it now than figuring it out in a snow bank with a flashlight, lol.

Nice ! That place is ultra nice. We usually stay in town since they put the gondola in. Of course you can ride it down to town. If 4 o'clock is open you can ski into town and ride the gondola up. Or ride the gondola up to the base.

We got here, Pagosa Springs, CO! Man, that was a long haul, about 1,100 miles, the fam loved some good soaking after that!
The place is kind of unreal.

The amount of snow at Wolf Creek is ridiculous as we were passing the place - taking the passage from the South Fork side, and it is still snowing!

We hit the ski rentals in town tonight for an early start on the slopes tomorrow! and - and we went soaking. The resort where we are staying has some 23 hot spring pools and my kids are on a quest to hit them all, lol.

Nukage inthe butte. people taking shelter in the umbrella bar yurt. Hot cider and fireball

Yeah, the Wolf Creek was pretty brutal this morning, awesome but brutal w/high winds and freezing rain/snow just piercing through.
Amazing powder though, they don't make snow (!!!), zero grooming also.
This is a fantastic place, so glad we came.
The pass is no joke, especially in whiteout-like conditions this morning!

But we made it. So glad I got those new tires they are great in this mess.

How long did you guys stay in "The Lobster Pot"????:p

Just returned from a week in Winter Park, CO so thought I would post up some "snowpocalypse" pictures from the dumping CO got on Friday (2/7). Great trip overall, super fun mountain (esp. during the week!), had 2 really cold days so that cut into some ski-time but we made the most of it.

Thurs. they had 7" which made for a great day. Then on Fri I woke up to the snow stake looking like this:

And checked it again after got home and before it was cleared for the day:

Here's what it looked like at lunchtime on the hill (@ Snoasis):

Doesn't do it justice, but a picture from a run on Vasquez Ridge (Aces and Eights)... Believe it or not those are moguls buried in the powder:

Nice, we almost got stuck in Breck with their 30 inches... They completely shut down Route 70 for avalanche risk.

Wow! That’s nuts! I just got back from Park City (first time there) it was great. We got 9” on our last day. Being a east coast snowboarder I almost lost my mind!!! What a fun day. Unfortunately a man got caught in an avalanche on the 30th. Horrible.

I’ve been to Breck, Whistler, and Park City so far and I’d have to say Whistler is my favorite but for ease of access Park City was awesome. Breck and Whistler involves a bit of travel after the plane ride which can be a small bummer I guess? Although the drive to Whistler was absolutely gorgeous!
