  • Guest, we are pleased to announce that Hydrophase Ridesteady is offering an extra $100 off for JETBOATERS.NET members on any Ridesteady for Yamaha Speed Control system purchased through March 7th, 2025. Ridesteady is a speed control system (“cruise control”) that uses GPS satellites or engine RPM to keep your boat at the set speed you choose. On twin engine boats, it will also automatically synchronize your engines.

Jet boat no neutral

Thanks for all the info! Great stuff! So I guess the bucket adjustment is to develop equal thrust to reverse and forward? Adjust and try?

Yes. Just make sure they open up all the way when in WOT position, otherwise you may loose some top end (speed).

Seems odd that neutral "creep" is excepted as normal and having to turn off the engine is somewhat overkill, as you're then faced with having to restart the jets if you do need to back off or advance if a strong wind.

Is adjusting the idle something that requires a trip to the shop?

Adjust the reverse buckets to get better neutral but remember the jet pump has no true reverse or neutral all that is created with the reverse buckets redirecting the forward thrust so the only real neutral would be to turn off the engines not the most practical thing to do I know my mega fang plus capture more of the reverse thrust so that can reduce the forward push when in neutral. This post comes to mind https://jetboaters.net/search/48025/?q=fangs+true+neutral&o=relevance

Nothing is static in the water especially the ocean given winds and tides whether you have a stern drive or a jet. Granted, stern drives have a better command of neutral than jets whereas jets have a compromise neutral. But stern drives derive neutral at the added expense, weight and maintenance of a transmission. Take your pick.

on that note remember a jet has NO transmission and that can work in your favor. With a jet you can work the throttle levers in forward and reverse rapidly since there is no transmission it is very smooth transition and you can keep a boat in one place by learning that trick you can also walk the boat one inch at a time either forward or reverse by manipulating the throttle lever or levers and with twin boats you can manipulate the throttle levers one in forward and one in reverse to rotate the boat in place, so there is an up side to the situation.
